For our last installment of Motorsports Monday, we featured a Porsche 914-6 GT that was track ready. That car sold for $30,100. If you aren’t much one for track days but are looking for the brawn the flat-6 engine provides over the flat-4, you’ll want to check out this 914-6 for sale in California with a GT spec 2.5 liter engine. It may not be done up in full on race livery, but if you have the nerve, imagine what a weapon this thing would be at the next autocross event near you.

While wide-body 911s have always been popular the design seems to have really hit its stride with the 993 and every iteration that has followed has looked tremendous with those wider rear fenders. Don’t get me wrong, the earlier turbos and other special 911s looked quite good as well, but once the 911 took on the curvier shape of the 993 that wider rear began to look just right. I’d even hazard to say that the narrow-body cars now look slightly out of place; they’re too slim. The Carrera 4S showcases those extra curves extremely well while providing the added benefit of all-wheel drive to help keep things moving in the intended direction. As with most 993s the market has remained strong for these cars, especially in colors we come across less often like this Aventurine Green Metallic 1996 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S, located in Connecticut, with 58,009 miles on it.

4 CommentsThere is something strangely alluring about a brown 911. Maybe it’s the way the color looks on the early cars or maybe it’s the relative rarity of the color on modern cars. Either way I always find myself drawn into these ads spending far too much time going through detailed pictures of the car and wondering why they went out of style. Brown definitely is a period color most popular in the ’70s and early ’80s and while Porsche offers a few shades on their modern cars they are exceedingly rare and I cannot recall ever coming across one on the road. Today’s example comes from the 911’s original long-hood design, which tends to showcase their brown color exceptionally well: a restored Sepia Brown 1972 Porsche 911T, located in Denver, with Beige interior and 61,480 miles. The 1972 911 has the distinction of being the only year the 911 came fitted with an external oil filler and while I haven’t really seen much to suggest the market cares about that detail it is nonetheless an interesting piece of trivia and an additional talking point on these early examples.

1 CommentIf the Speedster from earlier today was a bit out of your price range, or perhaps you’re more interested in owning a 911 to *gasp* drive it, then the car featured here could make for a nice opportunity. Here we have a Black 1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet, located in Rhode Island, with the always lovely contrast of a Burgundy leather interior. Sadly, we get very few pictures of that interior, but what we can see looks in very good shape. Driver-quality 3.2 Carreras aren’t the excellent values they used to be, but are still attainable for somewhat reasonable sums and an example like this, with fewer than 100K miles, should still have a very long motoring life ahead of it.

1 CommentAnother rare, low-mileage, 964 and another very high price. This time, however, we have an auction in which the reserve has been met so we should be able to get a reasonable idea of the current market. After the 964 Speedster, Porsche fans would have to wait nearly two decades for another Speedster variant to appear and as the last of the air-cooled models the 964 is sure to remain a hit. Also, while none of the 911 Speedsters have been as stripped down as the original iteration of the 356, the 964 Speedster may be the closest of the bunch. Based on the narrow-bodied Carrera 2, the lines of this Speedster show a familiar resemblance to the original and remind us of some of Porsche’s earliest low-frills performance machines. The particular example featured here comes from a collection of Speedsters: a triple Black 1994 Porsche 911 Speedster, located in Arizona, with just 10,456 miles on it.
