1992 Porsche 911 Turbo

The Porsche 964 Turbo is identified by a lot of 911 purists as the last of the real 911 Turbos. When the 993 based Turbo arrived, all-wheel drive entered the equation and a bit of the challenge (or threat, depending on who you talk to) was taken out of the driving experience. The 964 Turbo isn’t a car you’d expect to find in a particularly feminine color. But that’s just what we have here with this 3.6 Turbo for sale in the UK painted in the striking shade of Rubystone. This is one of the 1990s Porsche colors I’ve always loved. Question is, are you male readers out there comfortable enough in your masculinity to be seen in a sports car like this?

Two Turbos or None? BMW 335i v. M3

A few months ago at a gathering of friends, two BMWs were present – my friend’s E46 M3 and his acquaintance’s E82 135i. A bit under my breath, I mentioned to him that I still couldn’t get over how unattractive the 135i was compared to the M3. I may have said that the E82 looked a bit like a really poor quality bodyshop repaired a E46 that had been both in full frontal and rear crashes – poorly. But my friend countered that if anything, that 135i was faster and more fun to drive than his M3. Looking back, I paused, and thought “Could I?” The answer remains no in my book, but it does raise an interesting question – with E92 335i prices dropping within reach of the higher E46 M3s, which is the better choice?

Redefining “Beater” – 1995 Audi S6 – REVISIT

After lingering and reappearing for some time at a nearly $7,000 asking price, the seller of this “beater” S6 has finally compromised and the car is now offered at no reserve. Our readers previously suggested it was a $3,500 car – bidding is currently around $3,000 with two days to go. How much will this winter weapon end up at?

1986 Porsche 944 Turbo

$_4 (1)

We’re always on the lookout for low mileage classics here at GCFSB, but it’s rather special when you find vintage motors with under 10,000 miles on the clock. These types of cars can be a window into the past, reminding restorers how these cars were made in the first place or taking collectors back in time to when they first saw a particular machine on the showroom floor. This 1986 Porsche 944 Turbo for sale in Texas is just such an example. With just under 10,000 miles on the odometer, it looks as if it just rolled off the production line in Stuttgart. The idea of turbocharging had been around for some time, but this was the first car that produced the same amount of power with or without a catalyst. Forged pistons, a ceramic port liner and Brembo four piston calipers and ABS came standard. With a 0-60 time of 5.9 seconds, this was a very quick sports car in its day.

Tuner Tuesday: 1992 Volkswagen Corrado SLC Turbo

Since new, the Volkswagen Corrado has been the object of desire of many a VW enthusiast – each with a long list of modifications that they’d perform. When the price began to drop on used examples, those dreams started turning to reality and a few years on, we now regularly see these modified Corrados pop up for sale. Some of them are really done well even if a bit over the top like the supercharged 1992 I wrote up last Spring; others are intriguing but probably would be more valuable if they had remained stock such as the 1992 I looked at last Fall. Nevertheless, in the world of tuned Volkswagens there don’t seem to be any more proud owners of these modified sport coupes and another tuned example – this time turbocharged – has popped up for sale:
