The Audi V8 quattro – one of my all time favorites. Finding a good one these days is difficult, especially if you’re not a fan of very popular Pearlesant White that a fair amount seem to be. In fact, prior to today I had written up four Pearl V8 quattros; like 3 of those examples, today’s is one of the earlier 3.6 “PT” engined cars, with subtle differences to the 1992-1994 4.2 V8s. Like the later cars, the 1991s gained the light and fashionable BBS RZ wheels; seemingly a requisite for luxury German motoring in the late 80s and early 90s. Other than that, there weren’t too many running changes to 1991 cars – but this particular example is offered in the rare-to-see Opal Pearl metallic and seems to shrug off most of its 170,000 miles:

For a while, I thought the 500E/E500 wasn’t getting its fair shake in the collector market but it seems the tide is turning a bit. Traditionally it’s been the Mercedes coupes and convertibles that bring the big sums, and for a while, you could snag one of these hot rod E classes for reasonable sums. The window for such a deal seems to be closing, but this 500E for sale in California is on offer at no reserve, giving the potential for someone to get a bargain.

2 CommentsFewer cars summed up the optimism and robust market of the mid to late 1990s than then Mercedes-Benz W140 S class. While it was released on the tail end of an economic downturn and derided for its decadence, this was an impressive car, not only because of its size. Mercedes packed a ton of features and the latest technology into this new S class that, as usual, had the competition scrambling to keep up. A two door SEC model was on offer, both in 5.0 liter V8 and 6.0 liter V12 format. This 1993 500SEC has traveled only 42,000 miles and offers someone the crack at executive comforts at a subcompact price.

Comments closedAre you a fan of the Mercedes-Benz W123 estate but find yourself saying “I coulda had a V8?†Then look no further. This 1980 300TD Estate has a 5.7 liter Chevrolet V8 under the hood, a handy tool to keep up with traffic and even embarrass a few unsuspecting motorists. For sale in California, this looks like a well-done build, right down to the stock Mercedes V8 air cleaner box being adapted to the new engine. Now this is a sleeper.

2 CommentsWhile the E24 6 series coupe, like the one we featured yesterday, had staying power in the lineup, its replacement, the 8 series, led a bit shorter of a life, especially in the US. Designed to compete with the newly introduced Mercedes SL in 1990, it fell short of expectations and went rather unnoticed for a number of years. These grand tourers were a bit more complex than their forebears, especially when equipped with the V12 engine, which led some to shy away from them. Recently, they have started to make a comeback with enthusiasts and priced have started to climb just a bit. There are plenty of needy, high mileage examples out there for cheap but this low mileage V8 engined 840Ci for sale in Florida is not one of them.
