It’s been a week of mostly high-performance, and usually very expensive, 911 Turbos for me and while there’s certainly nothing wrong with that I’m now going to move towards the more relaxed end of the spectrum (though still staying in the deeper waters of 911 value). I’ve made known my fondness for the early 911 Targa and the one we see here is really grabbing me. Here we have what appears to be a lovingly cared for Albert Blue 1971 Porsche 911T Targa, located in California, with 67,600 miles on it. For ultimate performance you obviously want the 911S, but relative to modern cars no early 911, with the exclusion of the RS and such, are going to blow you away though with their much lighter weight they all still perform relatively well and it’s nigh impossible to match that vintage feel with a modern machine. No early 911 in good shape is inexpensive (and certainly not this one), but the same is true of a current 911 so maybe these are best viewed as collectible alternatives.

This is a 1 owner car recently pulled from long term storage. It is all original with almost no changes from new, except the Monza exhaust which was added the same year the car was purchased. This car has had 1 repaint in the original Albert Blue color, one of the most striking colors. All of the interior is original, same with the engine, same with the undercarriage. You simply do not find many original cars in this condition. Original owner moved from San Francisco to a rural area and realized the roads were going to destroy his Porsche so he put it in his enclosed garage up on blocks and stored it for near 30 years. After a ton of cleaning the car is back out and on the road, it looks beautiful. Sure it is not an S or E but it is a great cruiser and would look great next to you other Porsche that is too expensive to drive everywhere now. The car needs nothing, drives very well.
This is such a beautiful 911 and the presentation is doing it plenty of favors. Still, even with the great backdrop, the condition inside and out looks excellent. Albert Blue is a great color and the interior especially, given that it’s an unrestored original, shows in very nice condition. The steering wheel perhaps is showing some wear, but that’s relatively minor all things considered and could simply be a function of the lighting. These sorts of one-owner cars can be fantastic to pursue as they can eliminate much of the head scratching that comes with evaluating a vintage vehicle. That doesn’t guarantee that everything will be perfect and as described, but there appears to be lots to like here. As the seller notes it isn’t an E or S so it will be less sought after. Of course, it’ll also be less expensive. At $90,000 the asking price here is high as we don’t see many examples of the 911T get this close to six figures, and especially not a Targa, which consistently show lower values than a comparable Coupe. If all of the appropriate documentation is available to certify its originality then the price makes for a reasonable starting point with which to work as this does appear to be an excellent example overall.
