Paul’s recent post on $20K Porsches grabbed my attention a bit and got me thinking. As I was perusing the classifieds I came across this car and thought, “What if Paul’s idea was taken one step further?” Rather than an inexpensive Porsche that’s in good shape and ready to drive, what about going a bit less expensive for a car that needs minor work, though isn’t something we might use for the Heap of the Week? Such is the case with this car, a 1979 Porsche 911 SC Targa located in Miami.

THANK YOU FOR LOOKING!!!
For a SC, the mileage on this car isn’t unreasonable, but there are clearly some problems to be ironed out. The interior is definitely in need of some TLC, it’s missing a fog lamp, and the Targa top has seen better days. Otherwise, by all appearances this seems a decently sorted car. The caveat, of course, is this assessment is entirely based on what is plain to the naked eye. Have the mechanicals thoroughly checked out to make sure there aren’t any nasty surprises. If it passes muster though, then this could be an interesting opportunity. Bidding is currently at $12,100 and the seller claims a low reserve. It’s always difficult to know what a low reserve means to the seller of any Porsche, but I think if this car could be had for under $15K, then with a little bit of work you’d have a 911SC for a very reasonable total cost.

Listing ended.
Ended because of an error in the listing…interesting. I’ll keep an eye out and see if it pops back up.
Rob, I think people are doing this when the bidding isn’t going their way. There was a 924SE that was yanked last week “because the item was lost or broken” when bidding was quite low.
