After featuring a selection of higher-priced Porsches I was hoping to find something at a little more reasonable cost. As is generally the case with that sort of search, my thoughts immediately turned to the 911SC. Even with prices creeping up along nearly the entire Porsche portfolio, the 911SC remains a relative bargain and can usually serve as an excellent choice for those looking to see what the fuss is all about with the motoring icon that is the Porsche 911. The particular example featured here is a 1980 Porsche 911SC Targa on offer through Craigslist in Boise, ID. The mileage, at 115K, is about standard for a SC described as a driver and this one comes with the benefit of having been restored a few years ago.

A/C DeleteTruly a great example of a nicely updated SC!
I just took it in to Northwest Machine and had them go through it.
2 tops – an aftermarket fiberglass and mint original top/
Wheels – RARE Epsilon 3 piece racing wheels from early 80s – restored, powder coated and beautiful hand painted Porsche Center Caps.
I have a 3″ think book of receipts – over 40K spent on rebuilding engine, frame off restore & extras.
SPECIAL NOTE ON ENGINE- The motor was completely rebuilt AND IT WASN’T YOUR STANDARD REBUILD – MANY UPGRADES INCL (stainless steal head bolts, 966 cams, bigger intake and exhaust ports, stainless steal headers and more!).
This is not a concourse show car – if it were it would be twice the price. They did a good job restoring it and then it has been a weekend driver for 5 years. Not perfect – but pretty darn nice. I drove it on 84 up to above 100 mph – slightly uphill – and it had more to give.
Please serious buyers only – don’t have time for tire kickers and chatting. (:

THX for looking
With less than 3,000lbs to propel, the 180 hp of the 911SC still provides for spirited driving and the engine work combined with the Targa of this car should add a nice soundtrack for any weekend drive. Generally speaking I’m not a fan of the Turbo tail on a Targa, but this one pulls it off reasonably well because of the contrast of the Yellow and Black. The appearance looks good inside and out and the seller claims to have a decent number of receipts to document the restoration, which is certainly a plus for any Porsche of this age. My hunch here is that the price is slightly high given the mileage, but I think it certainly provides a reasonable starting point for any serious buyer. With that said, we recently featured a 911SC Targa that, while it had lower mileage, sold for nearly $29K, so the offering price here could be quite good within the current market.
