1980 Porsche 911SC Targa

Back to reality. After a slew of very high-dollar Porsches we’ll come back down to earth to return again to a perennial favorite the 911SC, and what has been a consistent feature of late in the reasonable value camp with a 911SC Targa. The great thing about Porsche is that even though we have stepped away from their supercars and vintage racers, it doesn’t mean that we’ve completely dissociated ourselves from the roots of those machines. While we certainly won’t see much shared DNA between a 911SC and the 918 Spyder there is still shared heritage and we certainly would find links between the early 356 and 911s within even a basic 911SC like the one we see here. And compared with many of the previous examples this one even comes in a really nice color. Here we have a Petrol Blue Metallic 1980 Porsche 911SC Targa, located in Maryland, with 81,345 miles on it.

Your bidding on whats becoming one of the most collectable vintage sports cars ever, the air cooled Porsche 911SC Targa. This particular example has only had 3 owners and is in very nice cosmetic AND mechanical condition. The pictures are with and without the Targa top on (looks great) and the Targa top folds up to store under the hood so its always with you. This is a great car and I encourage you to come check it out yourself plus to authenticate my claims Ive included the Hagerty value including the market trend confirming the investment potential.
Folder of service receipts, mechanical checkover and recent Md. state inspection
Just done, brand new mirror finish Petrol blue metallic paint and looks great.
Original black bucket seat interior with factory console
Power windows
Factory cold air-conditioning AC
80’s vintage Alpine AM/FM/Cass (so cool)
Removable lift off Targa roof that folds up and stows in the front luggage compartment,
16″polished Fuchs alloys with black centers and Goodyear Eagle F1’s
Rebuilt 4 wheel disc brakes with fresh pads and rotors
Rebuilt 3.0 liter fuel injected flat 6 cyl (part of a $14,000 service receipt)
81,245 original miles ( only driven around 2200 miles a year !)
Quite honestly the fact it’s going up in value is just a side bonus to how fun it is to drive and it appears these 91SC Targa’s are the next ones to jump in value again, the reason is they’re modern enough with Leather, Air-Conditioning AC, power windows, 4 wheel disc brakes and less than a 1000 Targa’s built, makes it pretty rare. They still have a classic style plus they’re more useable than some classic cars without those modern amenities and to take a weekend trip, drive it to work or run to the boat is a lot easier.
On a business note this is an auction to bid to win and pay for it, not one to bid to win to come look at it, ask the spouse, get financing, etc, meaning if you win it, plan on paying for it. I can handle all the c.o.d shipping arrangments for you if that helps. I wish you good luck and good bidding as you’re going to have a lot of fun.

As the seller notes, there is some collector potential to this 911SC though it comes down almost entirely to the color. While the mileage is quite reasonable for its age, it’s a little too high to really attract notice and not everything is entirely original. But that’s perfectly fine by me since this seems like an excellent candidate for a fun weekend cruiser. That the color combination happens to be an extremely attractive one just adds to our driving enjoyment. That said, verification of the authenticity of the Petrol Blue Metallic exterior will be a must since that should still influence the selling price. Regarding that price: bidding remains pretty reasonable, sitting right now at $26,555. I would assume the seller hopes that moves up into the low-$30Ks, but whether it will we will have to wait and see.

One very similar to this recently sold at BAT auctions for $33,750. Petrol Blue Metallic and looks to be in very similar cosmetic condition. Biggest differences, that one has 130k miles, no mention of a rebuild (although it sounds very well-sorted mechanically), no working AC, and no complete respray (could be a good thing). If that one went for low 30s, I would think on lower miles + recent rebuild + working AC, this one should hit $40 easy. Seems crazy, but this is probably about as nice a driver as you’ll ever find in an ’80 SC.

Drop-dead gorgeous paint color. How do I get the paint code to replicate that? Anyone know?

The paint code for Petrol Blue Metallic is L376.

Looks like it sold for $30,101. Not bad at all for whomever got it!
