1989 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa

As those of us in the Midwest and the East Coast slowly begin to extract ourselves from this abysmal winter, a car with an open top becomes mighty appealing. But since Spring is sometimes not warm enough for full open-top cruising then something like a Targa might be more appropriate. As Porsche recently has returned the Targa to its original form I do wonder what effect that might have on the market for earlier targa cars. This Velvet Red Metallic 1989 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa takes us back to that original Targa design and features a 3.2 liter flat-six mated to the G50 5-speed transmission.

1989 Porsche Carrera Targa in the rare and attractive factory color of Velvet Red Metallic over Burgundy Interior. The original interior remains very clean featuring optional Sport Seats. Other optional equipment includes Automatic Speed Control, Bilstein Shock Absorbers, Rear Shelf Speakers, and California Emissions. The Targa top fits snuggly and is in great condition.

Mechanically, this California car remains very stout. It pulls strong in every gear, clutches and shifts flawlessly, tight suspension with excellent handling and the car stops straight and true. It has been driven 86,075 miles since new and exhibits consistent care and attention. The G50 Porsche Carrera cars of the late 80’s are among the hottest, most sought after collector cars on the planet, and they are one of the few collector cars that can be driven and enjoyed in all situations without devaluing the investment. Cars with rare color options are instant attention grabbers in all arenas; the Velvet Red Targa demands your attention as it is an opportunity at the price offered here. Comes complete with books, 2-keys, tools and records.

All bids are final, please do not bid if you don’t want the car. PPI’s are welcome prior to end of the auction, NOT AFTER!! We are a License and Bonded dealer in Michigan. $198 Doc fee will be in addition to the selling price.

This is an interesting color combination, though I’m not sure how much I like the combo as a whole. I love a Burgundy interior, but here, because it shares such similarity with the exterior color, I’m not sure it works quite as well. The contrast between exterior and interior is lessened, which dulls the effect. Lovely color choices overall, I’m just not sold on the two taken together. Otherwise, the car looks in good order: the engine bay presents very well, the paint pops, and the interior shows little wear. All in all, an excellent looking Targa that should have many years of life ahead of it. Bidding currently sits at an even $25K, which is good money for a 3.2 Carrera Targa and with 8 days remaining on this auction we should see this come up a bit more.

I like the exterior color but would pass since it has accident history. Hmm, only 174 miles from January 2006 to January 2008. Also, for such low miles it’s missing two stickers that are typically present in the engine area and the third one is half worn off. I admit to being a bit picky.
