When I look back at Mercedes-Benzes of the last few decades, I think the W123 and W124 models did the heavy lifting when it came to solidifying the company’s reputation for building long-lasting, indestructible machines. While a lot of models came and went, the mainstay of the W124 E class lineup in the US was the 300E and later E320. With a series of smooth inline-six engines under the hood, conservative styling and comfortable yet firm suspension, these were great cars to cover lots of miles in, which is perhaps many have clocked hundreds of thousands of miles apiece. This particular 300E for sale on Long Island is a rarity, having only 20k miles on the clock.

A first rate example of the genuine old world MB product that is no longer available anywhere at any price. One adult owner since new, garaged without exceptions, original paint in excellent condition. Was always in a climate controlled garage – all rubber, trim, gaskets and seals are perfect – floors and undercarriage as new and belly pan is in place. Performs and functions as new in all aspects. Dealer and independent serviced. No radio – original becker was removed and covered with a factory MB cover plate. All manuals and literature except window sticker, two keys, first aid kit, full tool kit and unused spare.
We have owned 5 W124 cars trough the years and I am familiar with them – whoever gets this car will be very happy for a long time. Exceptional treat for any serious Mercedes Benz enthusiast or European automobile connoisseur – this is an opportunity to experience and enjoy a new W124 motorcar in 2013. I would like to pass this along to someone who will appreciate and preserve it for the next 25 years.

The 300E was in the middle of its lifespan in 1990 when Lexus and Infiniti rolled around with their big luxury saloons. Mercedes attempted to counter this in 1992 with the V8 engined 400E. Compared to the upstarts, the Mercedes seemed a bit staid at the time. But for me, this design has aged a lot better, reflecting that tasteful styling and good engineering can withstand the years. Some said the Japanese had the Germans beaten at their own game, and in some cases, this was true. But look a bit deeper, and there was something missing out of the equation that you could only get in a Mercedes-Benz. Perhaps it was decades of history or the cost no object build quality. But for me, it was the familiarity and capability of these machines that kept me loyal.
