I recently looked at a Laguna Green Metallic 850i 6-speed and talked a bit about just why they’re so special. It’s definitely a car you don’t see every day:
Out of the 4,194 5.0 V12 M70-equipped, only 847 came to the United States between 1990 and 1994 (as the re-badged 850Ci) with a 6-speed manual transmission. While that’s not quite as rare and desirable as the 850CSi, nevertheless the manual E31s are pretty special bits of kit and very hard to come across. But today we get to look at another, and it’s again a cool 90s color:

Up for sale is a beautiful example of the very rare V12 6 speed E31 850i in Calypsorot Metallic (252). This 1991 model year has 92,700 miles and will rise as we welcome test drives to serious buyers. This car needs nothing and is ready for a high speed blast across the country.
We acquired this car from fellow BMW enthusiast and long-time owner and addressed the details below as well as getting a full paint correction. The only issues upon purchase were a power steering leak and jumpy fuel gauge (both of which have been fixed by local BMW shop along with all of the other work). Everything else done to the car was preventative, common E31 issues, or small details to ensure the next owner could confidently enjoy driving the car.

Calypso Red Metallic was actually the second most popular E31 color, yet it’s one that I feel like we don’t see a lot. The 0358 Light Parchment Nappa leather looks to be in good shape and is a nice match for the exterior. ’91 was when most of the 6-speed arrived in the U.S., with 528 being sold that year alone. Condition is what you came for and it looks to be one of the better examples out there with plenty of receipts, a clean history and few flaws. I will admit that I’m a bit surprised the dealer didn’t take a few more dollars and minutes to replace the very yellow centercap stickers on the Style 9s, but you can’t have everything I suppose. Though, for the $27,500 asking price, I guess it’s something I’d expect be done. That’s $7,000 more than the Laguna example which was priced towards the top of the market already. This car does have 30,000 less miles and is probably a slightly less polarizing color, but i don’t believe there is a lot of recent sale data to support the asking price. A similar, but lower mile, Calypso Red 850i 6-speed just sold via Bring a Trailer at $18,500 and really only a few special and very low mile examples have broken $20,000 lately. As lovely as this car is, I would expect it will be a hard sale at this price point.

My least favorite BMW wheels by a mile. This car would be hugely improved with a set of Alpinas.
