1993 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3 Limited Edition – REVISIT

The 1993 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3 Limited Edition we featured last year is back up for sale, this time surfacing in California. Wearing Euro market headlamps, this final year W201 has accumulated just under 5,500 miles in that time and comes at a considerable discount since when we last saw it. Rarely do you get a chance to acquire such a rare piece of Mercedes-Benz history for such little cash. Given the choice between the new CLA and this stately compact sedan, I’d reach for the keys to the original baby Benz every time.

The below post originally appeared on our site March 19, 2014:

At the end of 190E production, Mercedes decided to give its decade old Baby Benz a sendoff by way of two special models: the 190E 2.3 and 190E 2.6 Limited Edition. The 190E 2.6 got a black exterior with an eye-popping interior consisting of carbon fiber trim and Recaro seats trimmed in black and red leather. The 190E 2.3 went the more subdued route with an Emerald Green exterior over Parchment leather and burlwood trim. Both cars featured the newer style, 8-hole alloy wheels. Only 700 of these 190E 2.3 Limited Editions were built and who knows how many have survived over the last two decades. This one for sale in Texas, however, has weathered the test of time rather well, having covered a relatively low amount of miles and with few modifications, save for an aftermarket stereo and European headlamps.

We featured a non-Limited Edition 190E 2.3 last weekend with about half the mileage for $2,600 more than the ask for this LE example. Both look to be in good shape, save for a few dings and the apparent keying in the one picture on this car. If it’s rarity you are after, this 2.3 will deliver, along with saving a few bucks in the process.

  1. A nice little car but the big brother W124 can be had for cheap and I’d rather drive one of those unless I had one of the dogleg 190s.
