1993 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.6

With the newly introduced CLA sedan and a new C class slated for 2015, the thought of owning a Mercedes-Benz is more accessible than ever. But it wasn’t always that way. The 190 class made waves in the early 1980s and shook up the Stuttgart manufacturer’s product lineup. The “Baby Benz” as it was dubbed became an instant hit, selling almost two million copies over the course of an 11 year production run.

There’s a lot of models to choose from. A lot of our readers are partial to the 190E 2.3-16, as it offers a bit of sporting fun for much less money than it’s contemporary, the E30 BMW M3. I’ve always been partial to the late model 190E 2.6. Growing up with one of these in the family, I was impressed by its build quality and smooth engine. It offered a level of refinement seldom seen in cars of its class. Unlike other Mercedes models, it’s hard to find a good 190E these days. But this final year 190E 2.6 for sale in Florida has under 50,000 miles and is a minter.

The color combination of this car isn’t my first choice, but this was a shade that was in vogue in the early 1990s. Given this is a no reserve auction, I’d suspect this 190E will probably fetch somewhere between $6,000 and $8,000.
