For the 964’s final model year Porsche gave us a few interesting new variants from which to choose. One of those was looking both forward and backward, drawing upon previous models and hinting at models that would come later. The car in question, which we see here, was the 1994 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Widebody Coupe. While the Carrera 4 itself first was introduced upon the 964’s debut, it originally came in the narrow-bodied design that was standard to any naturally-aspirated 964. Porsche, who had long produced wide-bodied 911s, had a few lingering Turbo chassis available and for the ’94 model year used those to produce a limited edition Turbo Look Carrera 4. The Turbo Look wasn’t a new idea as the 3.2 Carrera had provided a similar design through the M491 option package, and future 911 models would share the similar layout of the 964 Widebody under the guise of the Carrera 4S. These 964s are almost like an experiment taking previous ideas and trying them out in ways that would signal future directions. They aren’t the quickest 964s out there, but their look has garnered them quite an affectionate following among 911 fans.

I do love the overall look of these cars even if there is a weight penalty associated with the all-wheel drive system. I tend to find them especially attractive in darker colors, for reasons I’m not quite sure about, but even here in iconic Guards Red it still looks great. And this example in particular appears in really good shape. The interior shows very well and those sports seats, while doubling as a sought-after option, show little noticeable wear. Like many of the rare 964 variants Porsche produced during that model’s short existence these widebody Carreras have been in high demand and can command pretty steep premiums over the standard Carrera. Whether that demand is enough to push the price to nearly $90K, especially given that this one shows with reasonable, though not really low, mileage, I am not so sure, but with the way the market for 964s specifically and air-cooled 911s in general has risen it is probably a safe bet that we are not too far from these sorts of prices becoming the standard.

I loved everything about this car…until I saw $90k.
Then I completely lost interest.
This car has been on the market for many months. They started at over 100k. Its not going to sell even at $90. The turbo tail is non factory and ruins the car too.
should be priced between 68k-78k.
I think the price will be around $63K -$68K …
