2001 Audi RS4 Avant

My first real car was a B5 Audi A4 1.8t, which means everything related to the B5 RS4 was “it.” That was the holy grail and everything the B5 chassis aspired to be. It had all the little special touches and had just enough differences that made it far from just a B5 S4 Avant with more power. Even more, you are waiting until 2025 to even see one in the US outside of a few rare examples that made their way in. This was the car. Even now that these cars are 20 years-old, the want is still there and the prices reflect that. Today’s example, a 2001 finished in Goodwood Green, is checking all the boxes for me. Just four more years, right?

This is a car that aged well. It is so perfectly restrained with the small touches in all the right places. Even as something as little as giving the RS4 is a totally different gauge cluster to set it a part from the other B5 chassis cars. Even with 86,000 miles on this example in Belgium, it looks nearly perfect. Naturally Nogaro Blue is my favorite B5 color, but I think Goodwood is probably my second favorite.

This one is offered at nearly $60,000, which is admittedly high given the current market around Europe for these, but I’m sure that will seem cheap in another five or ten years. As you’ve seen, these can trade for nearly $80,000 in the US, although I’m sure there is some rarity clause factored in given there are literally just a handful legally in the US. I’m curious to see what happens in another four years when the flood gates open up and they all start coming to the US. We are now seeing that with the RS2, but keep in mind you are paying the Porsche tax with the RS2 and the RS4 has none of that. For now, keep marking off those calendars. They’ll be here before we know it.

I think this color combination is my favorite. Somehow it is in keeping with the subtle nature of the RS4 that I so appreciate. I captured my dream car(within the confines of availability) in 2001 when the the Black on Black S4 avant I ordered was delivered without Bose or aluminum mirror caps. Like you said, the RS4 was the holy grail, and this one is the color I would choose. Heck I have a dozen photos of them in my library. In the RS2 I would choose Nogaro Blue over black for sure. I have a dozen photos of that as well.

    Happy New Year!

This is well priced; I was surprised how low.

Ok, I admit it, the lust is on here and I am looking again. The listing shows it as a 2000? It’s really amazing to think this a 20 year old car. I wonder how I will feel about it in another 20 years. It’s a full package to me today, nearly perfect if that is possible.
