2004 Mercedes-Benz SL500

It still makes me wonder why the R230 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class is so inexpensive. I know they are now 20 years old and very much considered “used” cars, but they are generally good in the grand scheme of cars that use to cost $100,000. I don’t think they’ve aged all that poorly considering when it was designed and built, and actual quality isn’t that bad either. Today’s car, a 2004 SL500 up for sale in Florida, has the classic look of understated on the outside but a totally wild interior.

Choice Auto Brokers, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida is proud to present this 2004 Mercedes-Benz SL500. With a long history of development and refinement, the SL sets the standard by which all other luxury roadsters are judged.

With a smooth and powerful 5.0-liter V8 rated at 302 hp and 339 lb-ft of torque, this is one convertible that has more than looks going for it. A shiftable automatic transmission and an Active Body Control suspension system that rewards the driver with control and agility make this car as pleasing to drive as it is to look at.

This SL has a Clean Carfax vehicle history report – no accidents or any other problems, and 31 service records listed. It is in very good condition inside and out, and it runs and drives fantastic.

All the usual luxury features (and more) are here: power windows, locks and mirrors, power seats with heat and memory, dual-zone climate control, GPS Navigation, A BOSE audio system with CD changer, power adjust steering wheel, and much, much more. Options include the Sport Package with AMG body styling and 18 wheels, plus Bi-Xenon headlamps.

Every Diamond has a flaw: while this SL is in remarkable condition for a 2004 model year car, it is not perfect. The display screen is blemished but it is very readable (see pictures).

This is certainly not a perfect example. The aftermarket grille looks a little cheap, there are some tiny pieces of trim missing, the tires are mismatched, and the Comand screen has a circle of dead pixels in it. However, this is one where you can drive without any guilt and simply enjoy for not a ton of money at all. In a world where under $20,000 doesn’t buy you anything special anymore, the R230 slides right in.

Honestly, $16,000 seems rather fair considering the condition and mileage. Anything cheap and you are likely looking at some really beat-up example with a ton of miles but this is a nice price for a ton of car. Just wish I had more room.

Red and black classifies as a “wild” interior? What?

Robust interior color but pairs well with Silver and there is no better exterior color for an SL than Silver.
