I can’t remember the last time I wrote up a 997, and like with the 996TT, which I have written about frequently, the 997 provides us with a nice value comparison for those interested in a 911, but for whom performance might trump long term value. As we will see with the car here, since these cars already have passed through their significant depreciation from new they can be had for reasonable cost while retaining some of that cost for any future sale. For those who can’t get past the 996’s styling a car like this one, a Black 2006 Porsche 911 Carrera S with the X51 performance package and just 28,500 miles might be just the sort of thing to look for. Added to the power increase of the Carrera S over the standard Carrera, the X51 package raises horsepower to 381 and torque to 306 lb-ft appearing to push the limits of just how much Porsche can extract from the car’s 3.8 liter flat-six while remaining fairly comfortable and without reverting to forced induction.

Beyond Rare Factory Equipped Carrera Power Kit (X51) 911 C2S. It’s kind of like finding a unicorn. With only 28,500 miles. This is as close as you can get to a GT3/GTS from factory without paying GT3 money. Not to mention, you can keep the comforts of the standard S. Please note, the price of this is higher than a typical Carrera S, because it’s not just a Carrera S. It’s one of only a handful Carrera Power Kit equipped cars. And, it was equipped when built at the Porsche Factory, not completed by a tuner or a shop. I’ve only seen two X51 equipped cars on the market this year, grab it while you can.

Full Service on 12/2013 (22,745 miles) the following services were completed: Oil Change, Spark Plugs replaced, Belts replaced, Cabin Air Filter replaced, Intake Air Filter replaced, Wipers replaced, Brake Fluid changed. Oil change was also completed again on 08/2014.Overall, this vehicle is in outstanding mechanical and cosmetic condition. Having the x51 Power Kit definitely sets this apart from standard 911 S’s. The sound that the x51 Sport Exhaust puts out is intoxicating to say the least. And the Power and handling will speak for themselves. Invoice on this vehicle was $104,000, easily making this the most expensive non-turbo, GT3 997 I have ever seen. The options were tastefully selected, and worth every penny.
Additional Information: From Porsche Literature
The X51 Power Kit is available for the already more powerful 2006 Porsche 911 Carrera S Coupe. Featuring revised cylinder heads, carbon-fiber air cleaner housing, an aluminum air intake system, a reprogrammed engine control unit, and revised exhaust manifolds with sport exhaust and specially tuned tailpipes, the kit increases power, cuts acceleration times and increases the top track speed of this special model.
With the kit, the horsepower rating of the Carrera S Coupe’s 3.8-liter flat six-cylinder engine increases from 355 (SAE) to 381 (SAE). Acceleration from a standing start to 60 miles per hour (96 km/h) drops by two- tenths of a second — to just 4.4 seconds with a manual transmissionWith the manual gearbox, the Carrera S Coupe’s top track speed climbs to 186 miles per hour, the magical 300-km/h figure that puts this Porsche into the ranks of the world’s “super cars.†Top speed on the test track for the 2006 Carrera S Coupe with Tiptronic S transmission is 182 mph (294 km/h).
Trade Inquiries
As a side note, I do have some interest in trades/partial trades. I’m not tied to anything in particular, but have ranging interest from older 911’s, Lotus Evora, G Wagon, Ferrari’s. Feel free to offer up anything.
While there may be plenty of debate over whether the X51 package is a worthwhile option to select when purchasing a Carrera S new, given the cost relative to the performance gains, those debates tend to disappear a bit when looking at the second-hand market. With less of a premium to absorb, the extra 26 hp and 11 lb-ft of torque over the standard Carrera S makes for a nice addition, and while the Turbo will still provide more overall bang for your buck the X51-equipped cars pretty much stand at the top of the naturally-aspirated 911 food chain, at least when looking for performance value. Already on its 4th owner in less than 10 years, there’s probably a bit of legwork to be done here to insure everything is sorted as it should be, but we can hope that with fairly low mileage the mechanical condition will remain sound.

wow this car seems super overpriced. Rarity doesnt necessarily equate to value
I didn’t know the X51 pkg cost $17k+!!! Wow!
Interesting to note there are no photos of the front of the car. The headlights are just so ugly. I’m not sure how they got out of the design group.
Joe I thimk you’re talking about the 996.
