2013 BMW M3 Coupe Individual Java Green

I wonder where the E9x series cars will trend over the short-term future. If you look at the E46 as the rough equivalent of the Porsche 993 – last of the “classic” formula – then where does that leave the E9x? Perhaps it’s more like the 997; modern, but not too modern. Fast, but not too fast. Good to look at, but also not so shouty that you stand out in the crowd.

Well, at least most of the time that’s the case – but not with today’s car. This is actually the second time I’ve looked at one of the rare E92 coupes painted by BMW Individual in Java Green:

Green with Envy: 2013 BMW M3 Individual Java Green

Though it looks the same, today’s car is one of the other claimed 11 made for North America. What will it cost you today?

Well, you’re certainly not going to miss where you parked it in a lot. Nor will you likely be parking in a lot near anyone else, as this one is priced at Porsche-level prices. Is it justified? Well, it’s rare, it’s very impressive to look at, and it’s got low mileage. Truth told you could achieve most of what you see here by simply buying an earlier manual coupe, spending a few grand on a nice wrap, and having a lot of money left over for repairs or other cars. It wouldn’t be quite as special, but then you could also drive it a lot more. There’s also the problem of the price when you consider what this car just sold for – some $20k less on BaT in March 2022. I think the dealer is hoping for a quick flip profit, but as with all things you’ll need just the right buyer who has to have it.

    good analogy…the e9x vs 997 …I seriously considered a 2011-2014 M3 before I bought my 997 in 2018.

This price is too high for a DCT car with 24k miles. Also while the color is unique it will appeal to a relatively small pool of buyers. To get 90k for an e9x it needs to be a truly low mile (<10k miles) car with a manual transmission, in a non polarizing color.

The comparison to 997 is a good one. I have owned both and like them both for different reasons. I would say it is a toss up for me. I always thought of the M3 as more of a GT car and 911 as a sports car that dominates on the track, but to the M3’s credit as a great all rounder it turned a faster lap time than a 997.2 Carrera S in Car and Driver’s Lightning Lap at VIR in 2009. The M3 was also faster than the 997.1 turbo in 2007.
