Long live the V12! In all seriousness, I’m not breaking any news here saying the V12 engine is not long for this world. The return just isn’t there for companies with the emissions regulations and you can make comparable power with turbochargers, superchargers, and electric batteries. Thankfully we have roughly 30 years of them to choose from and they seem to be aging reasonably well, all things considered. My favorite V12, the Mercedes-Benz M275, can be had across various of platforms and it seems the secret is out about them. Today’s car, a 2014 SL65 AMG, came with a giant sticker price of over $215,000, but that doesn’t mean you are going to be snagging this one for $48,000 some eight years later. Not even close.

I can’t say these R231s are my favorite SL-Class ever, but it’s hard to deny what they offer. They are capable of bonkers speed with 0-60 times in the low 3-second range, yet it is totally tame to drive almost every single day. As mentioned, the M275 is stout enough not to totally destroy your financial well-being, but my guess is you aren’t too worried about it given how much these still demand.
This example with 14,000 miles still has an asking price of $140,000. I know that is $75,000 off the sticker price, but $140,000 is still $140,000. For me, the value isn’t there when you can grab a 2009 SL65 AMG for around $50,000 with nearly the same performance and somewhat reasonable equipment. Just please carry out your due diligence on these. It is worth a PPI, trust me.

The crack pipe is strong with this one.
Yeah, sign me up for an 8 years old V12 Merc for $140K.
So much restraint by the dealer only charging $1250 in junk fees. Kudos to them!
As someone who has bought a Mercedes from Broward County, do yourself a favor and never buy a Mercedes from Broward County. I think you have to be shady to get your dealers license there.
@Mike K I would add Dade County. The Broward/Dade area is the scam capitol of the US. I wouldn’t but a car there from a dealer or a private seller.
This generation SL is not pretty and the price is insane. In any other year this car would be a casualty of massive depreciation and be worth <$50k.
