Who said cars were dead? In one of the more surprising moves I’ve seen recently, Mercedes-Benz decided to launch an “all-terrain” version of the E-Class literally called the E450 All-Terrain. It is the standard E-Class wagon with some bizarre black body cladding along with a 29mm higher ride height thanks to the Air Body Control air suspension and standard 4MATIC all-wheel drive. Why did Mercedes bring this to the US? Well, to cut into Audi A6 Allroad and Volvo V90 Cross Country sales, of course.
If you are looking for pure utility without buying an SUV or crossover, here you go.

At the end of the day, I’m glad stuff like this exists. The more options we have are generally good for the consumer and bring prices down on the used market. As for these, I’m always a little disappointed when you have a $75,000 E-Class with cheap vinyl on the seats and door panels. It looks cheap, it feels cheap, and doesn’t hold up well. I totally understand putting that in the A-Class and C-Class, but once you start getting well north of $60,000, I feel like real leather is a must.
As for this example, the seller is a little vague about the title situation. It sounds like it has an R-title after an accident, which means it is a no-go for me. Most insurance companies aren’t going to let you run full coverage without a massive monthly premium and some might not even offer full coverage at all. I suppose if you are a legacy E-Class wagon buyer than this is a consideration for you, but I can’t see myself in one of these.

Hi,
MSRP was $71.665.–. Now offered for $49.500.– with an AZ restored title due to
“minor” side damage. The old saying applies, if it sounds too good to be true,
it usually is. No insurance company would total an almost new luxury car for
“minor” side damage.
