Yes, you have read the title correctly. This 1981 Porsche 911SC Targa houses a 537 horsepower 8.2 liter V8 from a 1970 Cadillac Eldorado. A couple weeks ago I posted the Safari 911 and began that post stating, “Let’s get weird.” Little did I know just how weird things would get.

From the outside there actually isn’t too much to really distinguish this 911 from any other SC of the period. Observers might notice the extensive grill work on the boot lid, but otherwise it looks like a 911 that someone has stuffed a bunch of luggage in the back. The condition even looks quite good. If you start poking around though you’ll realize things are not quite what they seem. I imagine pulling up next to it at a stoplight would reveal a little bit as well!

This obviously isn’t a very traditional method for modifying any 911, but for the owner it was the culmination of a desire stemming from his teenage years. I’m not sure I’d ever consider such a thing myself, but as someone who does lust after some of the V8 Miatas that lurk the streets I can’t say I don’t totally understand the impulse. I’m not sure ‘unique’ even begins to describe it.

1972 Porsche 911T Coupe

So this seems…kinda reasonable. I don’t get to say that often about a long-hood 911, but this Dolomite Grey Metallic 1972 Porsche 911T Coupe sits with an asking price of just under $50K. I can’t say we’re blessed with a wealth of information about it, for instance the mileage isn’t stated at all, but it presents well, looks in good condition inside and out, and is said to run well. A PPI should clarify questions about its mechanical condition. The color isn’t original – it’s said to originally have been red – but I’m not sure that should surprise anyone given the price. All things considered this could be a nice chance at getting into a vintage 911 for a good bit less than we normally see. I think it’s certainly worth further investigation.

This is one of those holy **** cars. Here we have a 1982 Porsche 928 Weissach Edition. I will admit before looking at this one I did not know much about the 928 Weissach Edition. I’ve seen plenty of the 911 Weissach Edition, but not the 928. Like the 911 Weissach, the 928 was intended to celebrate Porsche’s Motorsports department located in, you guessed it, Weissach, Germany. It was the 20th anniversary of the groundbreaking at the site. And we know that Porsche likes to make special editions.

Like many Porsche special editions, the 928 Weissach doesn’t hit you with a bunch of performance upgrades. It’s all cosmetic, but while the 911 made do mostly with interesting colors, the 928 turns the luxury dial up with its additions. The most obvious of these additions is the leather. The Weissach came with medium brown leather and if you could touch it, then it probably was leather. You also received a matching leather 3-piece luggage set made by Seeger. Because who would dare travel in their Porsche Grand Tourer without matching luggage? The exterior is Hellbronze Metallic, which is a nice color and furthers the theme of elegance. Other items were included as well: upgraded stereo, electric sunroof, forged alloy wheels, and front and rear spoilers. The overall impression though is straightforward: the 928 Weissach was for the buyer who wanted their Porsche luxury cruiser to be even more lux and more exclusive. The package cost $5,940 so you definitely had to want it.

Porsche said they’d make only 205 of them. That’s almost half the number of the 911 Weissach built so they’re pretty rare. I don’t know how many of those were equipped with a manual transmission (a 3-speed automatic also was available), but this one is a manual. It also has a stupid low 14,030 miles on it. Hot damn!

2007 Porsche 911 GT3

2007 Porsche 911 GT3

This is a Speed Yellow 2007 Porsche 911 GT3, located in North Carolina, with 53,500 miles on it. As you can see, like the very wonderful GT3 RS I wrote up a few days ago it has a few miles on it. Not a ton, but enough that we know its owners have derived some joy out of it. As they should.

However, it’s not quite as perfect and worry-free as that RS. There are some flaws and those raise questions. The uncertainty they create will scare away many potential buyers. They’ve also brought with them a lower price; the lowest price I believe I’ve seen for a 997 GT3. I won’t call this post a “roll of the dice” because I’m not sure you roll the dice on a car costing more than $80K, or at least not one without deep six-figure upside, but can you live with a little less certainty?

1969 Porsche 912 Coupe

1969 Porsche 912 Coupe

It feels like forever since I posted a 912 and that’s too bad because I like these a lot. However, they don’t always make as much sense as they once did – as the inexpensive alternative to a long-hood 911 – and frankly I don’t see nice ones all that often. Or, at least, it’s become extremely rare to see those that fulfill both obligations: they look good and they aren’t priced insanely. I think this one does manage to do that even if it still is more expensive than where we were a few years ago. It is cheaper than most of its 911 counterparts though so at least that’s good.

This is a Polo Red 1969 Porsche 912 Coupe, located in California, with black leatherette interior and 67,570 miles on it. Those familiar with the 911/912 from this era will know that 1969 signals the first year of the longer-wheelbase for both models. Since the 912 would be put out of production the following year, except for a one-year return in 1976 with impact bumpers, this is the only model year you can get a long-wheelbase long-hood 912. That makes them a little unique and I think this one looks quite nice!
