I feel that many vehicles these days are trying to be something they are not. Take one look at the myriad of crossovers or SUVs based on ordinary sedan chassis. Marketing professionals promise the thrill of escape and adventure but in all honesty, you’re not going anywhere. You’ll just blend right into the suburban landscape upon purchase. Want to stand out? How about driving something that doesn’t put on airs, like this 1995 Mercedes-Benz E320 Estate for sale in Vermont. This was the final year for the venerable W124, a car which is still a common sight on streets across the globe today. The estate version of the W124 was for those looking for a family car but wanted just a bit more in terms of luxury and versatility. With a rear-facing third row seat, one could carry up to seven passengers and the self-leveling rear suspension would keep things in check while doing so. If you’ve been looking for a tidy example of the five-door variant of this Benz, you won’t want to miss this one.
This car couldn’t be more different from yesterday’s slightly dodgy “AMG” 190E. While that W201 was in rough shape and of dubious authenticity, this low-mileage, AMG-tuned, widebody W124 coupe appears to be both the real deal and in glorious, mint condition.  There’s no denying that this black on black 80s bad boy has incredible presence, with deep dish wheels and bulging fender flairs. Unfortunately, it also comes with hefty price tag to match.
There is a reason why Jay Leno calls the W109 6.3 his favorite Mercedes-Benz. It’s a classic Mercedes design both inside and out then finished off with the M100 6.3 liter V8 that still holds it own with modern cars. It’s what a Mercedes-Benz should be. Don’t get me wrong, I love the new super AMG cars that have 650 horsepower and can drive themselves down the road, but you can get that from any brand now. In 1969, this was the car if you wanted a European super sedan. Not to mention you paid for it too at over $14,000, which was only a few thousand less than a Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow. But the Silver Shadow didn’t compare to the 6.3 in terms of power, build quality and reliability. That’s why this car still has a huge following and even higher demand to this day. One quick look at this late model W124 and you might mistake it for any other normal E-class of the era due to its rather sublime Smoke Silver hue. Such is how good this color is at hiding those wide front fenders, bodywork which will tip the enthusiast off into knowing this isn’t your normal E-class. No, this is one of a few of the facelifted E500s which made its way stateside before taking a bow three short model years in. This example for sale in Georgia just crossed the 20,000 mile mark, quite remarkable for a car which screams “drive me.” Been on the hunt for a mint condition example of this legend? This car is the very definition of a hot mess, so much so that I almost passed it by. But a V8 powered Baby Benz is such an outrageously fun proposition that I couldn’t resist writing it up anyway. In the 1980s, AMG was still an independent tuner that offered bodykit, engine and suspension upgrades for Mercedes cars. These are known to enthusiasts as the “pre-merger” years; AMG would later be folded into Daimler-Benz in about 1990. While we’re fairly familiar with W124 and W126 AMGs from this period (especially the W124 Hammer, which you can see Chris Harris hooning here), occasionally a 190E will pop up to remind us that the geniuses at Affalterbach also worked their magic on the W201 chassis. At first glance this candy red 190E appears to be an AMG-modded car, but a look beneath the surface reveals that it’s actually a bit of a Frankenstein’s monster.
