I love the fact that the only way to get 4MATIC all-wheel-drive on the W210 Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG was to buy it in wagon form. Not just any wagon, as some were still rear-wheel drive, but rather you had to option one with 4MATIC. Naturally, this is a huge deal for traction given the massive amount of torque these and also for usability given this is a wagon after all. This 2000 up for sale outside of Zürich seemed to take advantage of that usability judging by the number of miles it racked up.

What do a Mercedes-AMG GT R, the red pig, and Ferris wheels all have in common? Let me try to explain. This 2018 AMG GT R up for sale in Düsseldorf pays tribute to the 1971 Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.8 AMG that ran at the 1971 24-hour race at Spa. What does that have to do with Ferris wheels? Apparently, there were 5 of these tributes produced by design company Bussink. Who is Bussink? They are a leading designer of giant Ferris wheels and similar structures for over 25 years and produced more than 60 giant wheels. I guess they got a little bored of designing Ferris wheels are now they are doing engineering and design work on Mercedes-Benz with their blessing. Can’t say I blame them. Now one of these is up for sale to the public and oh boy is it expensive. I was not prepared for this price.

Comments closedI often wonder what comes of the W140 Mercedes-Benz coupe. They certainly aren’t as striking or stately as the previous generations, but they are extremely high quality and can still be used as a daily driver without issue. Production numbers went down as the generation aged, and trying to find a V12 example in the later years is extremely tough. Still, you can find a V8-powered car without too much work and judging by recent results, not too much money. Today’s example, a 1995 S500 coupe in Virginia is finished in the wonderful shade of Emerald Pearl, gets you into what seems to be a clean car without too many miles.

1 CommentNobody circles the wagons like the … Mercedes-Benz wagons. I’m sure you know what I’m trying to get at here. In all seriousness, if you want resale value, go ahead and grab yourself a wagon from basically any generation. It’s even true of today’s bottom-of-the-barrel offering, the W203 C240 4MATIC wagon. I’ve ranted for years about how the W203 was a real low point for Mercedes-Benz in the modern era with its utterly bland styling, horrifically cheap interior, and lackluster powertrains. The wagon doesn’t alter that formula, but at least you have the utility of all that extra space. As you can probably tell, this is not an attractive color combination. Travertine beige over Java vinyl. Don’t let the fancy name of “Java” fool you either, it’s just beige.

2 CommentsCrazy to think that $20,000 isn’t considering a large sum of money for a car anymore, but it will still buy you a handful of really cool used stuff as long as you are okay with it being 20 years old. Hard to wrap my head around the fact that the R230 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class is in fact that old, but thankfully it doesn’t look its age. Today’s car, a 2003 SL500 up for sale in Chicagoland, brings a whole lot of flash with its Mars Red paint, but thankfully you can drive away while still being under that $20,000 limit.
