1997 BMW M3 Sedan LSX 6-speed swap

The other day, Paul wrote up a 1998 M3 Sedan being sold by the premium dealer Enthusiast Auto Group. This isn’t that car, so if you’re looking for the best sedan available you’re better off looking at that post. However, if you’re looking for the most bang for your buck, this sedan might fill the need. While the E36s didn’t get the full-fat M motors that Europe saw, this particular example has rectified that motivational issue by replacing the venerable inline-6 with a Chevy 6.0 V8 hybrid and mated it to a Tremec 6-speed manual. Interested? I was:

1992 BMW M5 Touring – REVISIT

The 1992 BMW M5 Touring – reportedly the first production one made – is back up for sale. That’s a bit unsurprising even with the rarity of an E34 M5 touring; at an extraordinarily high price with quite high miles, it was not much of a surprise that it didn’t trade hands even if it is the coolest E34 out there. The seller claims the lowered reserve means the high bidder last time would win this auction. Will that person bite this time around?

10K Friday: 2001 – An Executive Odyssey – S8 v. 740i Sport

A few weeks ago, Paul wrote up a low mile 1995 740i, always a favorite of ours here at GCFSB. Also a favorite is the D2 S8. Together, they represent in our minds the pinnacle of large executive designs – fast, comfortable, quiet, and with enough presence to draw respectful looks without being overstated, showy or brash. We also think that these two executive sedans are better looking than the multiple generations that have replaced them. While performance and luxury have increased in both BMW and Audi, in our opinion both of these cars are the high-water marks for their respective brands. So, which would you rather have? Let’s start with the S8:

1997 Porsche 911 Carrera

The 993 is for many a favorite. Stylistically, it shows the culmination of 30 years of subtle changes and tweaks, because while it no longer wore the classic 911 body it undeniably clung to those roots. The proportions were just right, the weight remained reasonably low and the engine provided the unmistakable clatter that could only be produced by an air-cooled engine. As the last of the air-cooled 911s, the 993 is an icon of an icon. The car featured here is a Black on Black 1997 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe, located in Oregon, with 6-speed manual transmission and a light 30,300 miles.

1957 Mercedes-Benz 190SL – REVISIT

The 1957 Mercedes-Benz 190SL we featured last month is back up for auction. Long forgotten amidst other, more popular SL models, this roadster has finally started to see an uptick in values, with good ones reaching into solid six figure territory. Will this one meet its reserve this time around?
