Crazy to think that the older 991-generation of Porsche 911 is now 10 years old. Time stops for no one and here we are. For myself, I loved and still do admire the 991. There is nothing conversational or risky about it, other than maybe it is a little large. However, cars growing in size aren’t exactly unique to Porsche, as every car has grown outside of the really niche models. If I had my choice, I’d have a 991 GT3 and call it a day, but for around $60,000 less, I’ll take today’s car: a 2012 911 Carrera S coupe.

Crazy to think that $20,000 isn’t considering a large sum of money for a car anymore, but it will still buy you a handful of really cool used stuff as long as you are okay with it being 20 years old. Hard to wrap my head around the fact that the R230 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class is in fact that old, but thankfully it doesn’t look its age. Today’s car, a 2003 SL500 up for sale in Chicagoland, brings a whole lot of flash with its Mars Red paint, but thankfully you can drive away while still being under that $20,000 limit.

1984 Volkswagen Polo SP

The Polo isn’t a model often featured on these pages because 1) they never came to the United States and B) if you’re going through the effort of importing a European car, let’s just say the Polo probably isn’t top of your list. In 1981, the second generation debuted on the A02 platform – a standalone for the model and its betrunkened twin, the Derby (also not sold here). These super-minis were intended to be cheap and efficient; very basic equipment was met with very basic engines. The SP was marketed as the “sportier” Polo with slightly better equipment and a cool color pallet, though you’d be hard-pressed to call it either fast or luxurious. Still, it’s neat to see one here and worth a look:

Gosh, this is like déjà vu all over again. If yesterday’s Sprint Blue RS6 wasn’t enough to tempt you, I’m back with an even more blue M3. Today’s E46 is Topaz Blue Metallic outside, which is nice – but that’s not the whole story. Inside is the very blue Laguna Seca Blue leather upholstery. The seller of this one believes that you’ll be hard-pressed to find another like it, and I’d have to agree. Laguna Seca Blue leather was available from the factory as a special-order but regular production color, meaning the car didn’t have to go through BMW Individual. But why choose this color? Well, the story goes that this is was a press car model, and indeed it carries code 916 – Development Vehicle. I previously looked at a double-Imola E46 M3 press vehicle, and it’s neat to see another come up for sale:

2003 Audi RS6

2003 Audi RS6

It hasn’t been very long since I covered the RS6, but when a nice one comes up they always catch my eye. If you want a primer on the model, I covered the bases here:

Today’s example is LZ5F Sprint Blue Pearl Effect, and yeah – that’s what I noticed first. The color was fairly rare on the S4, accounting for roughly 10% of the total imported to the US. But on the RS6? This is right up there with Goodwood Green Pearl Effect as one of the rarest colors seen on the model. To cap it off, it’s also got Silk Nappa leather and is claimed to be one of one in this combination here in the US. It also has just 63,000 miles. Let’s take a look!
