I think I’ve been neglectful of the GT3, and that’s stupid. These are phenomenal cars. They are perhaps overshadowed by the more extreme GT3 RS and that’s probably the cause of my neglect, but really they shouldn’t be as their capabilities lie well beyond what most drivers can usefully exploit. And unlike the GT3 RS with all of its vents and wings the GT3 makes due with slightly more aggressive lines to separate itself from the rest of the 911 lineup. Well, when one popped up in Signal Yellow my attention was grabbed. Of the various yellows Porsche has produced, I feel confident Signal Yellow is my favorite. With Green, Blue, and Orange (really any of the jelly bean colors) I’m less certain and can sway toward one or another based on the model or just whatever has been capturing my focus at the time. But with yellow, it’s no contest. On a GT3 the color is brought to even greater heights as it marries its beauty with the superb performance of these modern 911s. Very little will grab your attention better than a long-hood 911 in Signal Yellow, but I dare say this GT3 does a pretty good job.

1987 Porsche 930 Coupe

What a difference a few miles makes, right? That’s a slight understatement regarding the mileage, but if we compare this Guards Red 1987 Porsche 930 Coupe with the Moss Green Metallic 930 Coupe featured last week we quickly notice the significant price difference between the two cars. Much of that difference comes down to their relative mileage, and some of it comes down to the much more unique color combination of the green one. Still, this 930 looks good enough in its own right and for essentially half the price it certainly appears to be a pretty nice value.

1987 Audi Coupe GT Special Build

I spent a lot of bandwidth covering the many changes from the B2 to the B3 chassis Audi yesterday. However, there was a transitional model between the two chassis in the 1987 Audi Coupe GT Special Build. The Special Build carried many items that would appear in the production B3 front drive 90 the next year. As with yesterday’s 90 quattro, motivation came from the 130 horsepower 2.3 liter NG inline-5. This represented a substantial power upgrade over the outgoing KX 110 horsepower unit. The rear brakes were upgraded to discs, as well – the only Coupe GT to have this setup, which again would be seen on the B3. The interior was revised, too, with the Savoy Velour replacing the Kensington Velour. The easiest way to tell the difference was the triple (opposed to double) striping of the fabric, though several Special Builds were optioned with leather interiors.

In what was a mostly unnecessary move, Audi beefed up the standard gearbox with larger output shafts. The Special Build cars also came with a unique exterior treatment. The spoiler, B pillar and window surround, and mirror housings were all painted in the exterior color choice. This had partially been seen on the 1986 Commemorative Design cars, which often causes confusion between the two. However, the easy way to spot the difference without popping the hood or peering between the fourteen spokes of the Ronal R8s in back is that the rear spoilers on the ’86 models weren’t body color. As with the ’86 CD, color options were limited to Black, Alpine White, or Tornado Red. Also lightly revised was the digital dash, which changed color from Red in the ’86 CD and limited run non-CD models to an orange backlit unit.

There are few things that fit together better than a W140 Mercedes with AMG Monoblock wheels. Just like the car, the wheels are big and flat. There are no thin lines, no 18 different curved spokes with fake bolts – just wide but simple 5-spoke wheels. I’d really like to own this combination, but I’d certainly have an aneurysm from my passengers slamming the doors like it’s a 1987 Ford F150 with the word ‘FARM’ spray painted across the tailgate no matter how many times I tell them they are soft-close. If you have friends that take direction better than mine, then you are in luck with this 1999 S500 for sale in San Diego, California.
