Sub-10k mile 2001 BMW M3

Ew_640

Laguna Seca Blue is one of the most desirable colors for the future-classic E46 M3, and today we have an example that will probably spend most of its life parked as a preservation specimen. With just under 10k miles, it’s barely been broken in is priced as one of the best E46s out there. I can’t see anyone spending this much money on such a car and putting any considerable amount of miles on it. Alas, this Ultimate Driving Machine will not be driven, but in a few decades it will stand as one of the finest examples of one of the most venerated millennial sports cars. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen this car, as Carter wrote it up back in July 2014 and from a previous seller and in unmodified form in May 2014. It has to be said that the price a year ago seems much more compelling and fitting.

Like the black kidney surrounds on a low-mileage E36 M3, I just don’t understand the aftermarket BBS CH rims on a car where the exact allure is low-use and originality. Sure, clean BBSs are a nearly-universally respected upgrade, but they make no sense here. But $65k doesn’t really make sense for an E46 M3 regardless of color or mileage, does it? At that point you’re just spending money to spend money, so you’re kind of a jerk.

This is positively ridiculous. Noone will buy this at the current price. Yes it’s a great car, but 50k mile examples can be had in what is essentially the same condition for probably $20k or less. This is a seller trying to create a bubble when there isn’t one yet. Values are staying steady and possibly slowly increasing like the e39 M5,but this is no E30 M3 just yet.

I also agree on the wheels.

smurf blue has a cult following..though I remember clearly when the E46 first came out…the demo cars dealers got were LSB and people poo poo’d it…then it became a hot color to have…
I agree that this dealer is really so far out there that I can’t see this selling….it isn’t a collector car..maybe it will be in the future but not now…
as far as the rims…well no way of telling what size they are 18 or 19…and as the comp package wasn’t around in 01…IMHO these are a nice/practical upgrade from the the stock 18’s or premium package 19’s…

To me the strange thing about this car was that it was completely stock in May ’14 @35K, then someone grabbed it and slapped a bunch of mods on it and doubled the price. Like the Phoenix Yellow one with similar miles I wrote up a while back, at 35K I think there’s a limited market. At 65K, there are much better/more collectable cars out there! For 65, I’d take a higher mile E46 M3, plus a host of other cars rather than one nearly perfect but modded 10K example.

This makes EAG look reasonable. I could see this for a 2004-06 slick top with ZCP package… Maybe.

Color is right and transmission is right. Just too high for current market as others have stated.

WRT swapping out the wheels, a far smarter move would have been to purchase the correct ZCP US wheels (made by BBS also) or even find some CSL Euro wheels (made by BBS also). At least the owner could have claimed some sort of period correct upgrade vice the BBS that are on there now.
