1979 Audi Fox

When it rains, so the saying goes. From zero Audi Foxes to two in two weeks, unlike the rare but in need of some work Fox Avant comes this ready to drive Fox sedan. Not often do driver-quality Foxes come up for sale at all, and this one looks great in white over tan. With some later 14″ Audi Coupe alloys fitted, this is a smart looking alternative to a 320i for the Volkswagen or Audi faithful:

1979 BMW 528i

While the BMW faithful and converts have flocked to the E28 and E30 as the next collectable and drivable classics, nearly ignored in BMW history are the E21 and E12 predecessors; cars that both revolutionized the small luxury sport sedan market and set the stage for their more sought after replacements. If you’re not in as much of a hurry and don’t mind the more 70s, less 80s approach of the earlier cars, finding a clean example is a much cheaper proposition than the market stars that everyone is looking for. Truth be told, finding those clean examples – especially the E12 variety – can be difficult, but today there is a mint condition, lower mile 1979 528i example on Ebay:

1979 Mercedes-Benz 280S

Base model luxury sedan. A contradiction in terms, no? But, as the old saying goes, the world needs ditch diggers, too. And so it goes with the Mercedes-Benz S class. One model is going to have to be labeled as the “entry-level” model, so to speak. In the 1970s, that would be the 280S, a W116 with a dual carb version of the M110 inline-6. While not sold on these shores, naturally a few found their way over here via private importers. This one for sale in Florida is an eye popping shade of Signal Red with matching hubcaps and sans sunroof that comes with an interesting history.

Double Take: Porsche 911SC or 3.2 Carrera?

For any prospective buyer of a classic 911 there inevitably comes a decision to be made about whether to get a 911SC or a 3.2 Carrera. These cars share enough similarities that in some cases a buyer may decide based simply upon availability. These are, after all, 30-year-old cars so the numbers of excellent examples are dwindling. But what if a good example of each is available, nearly identical in appearance and for similar cost? Now the decision-making process becomes a bit more difficult and it’s precisely the dilemma we feature here: a 1979 Porsche 911SC with 29,900 miles and a 1988 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe with 57,750 miles. We’ll begin with the 911SC:
