I’m going to move away from ridiculous cars and back to the attainable (and driveable) examples that we all cherish so much. The 964 holds an interesting place in the 911 lineup transitioning from the classic design to the more modern design of the 993. While generally considered the first modern 911, its appearance more closely aligns it with what came before while its engineering clearly had taken significant strides toward what was to come. It wasn’t a much loved model in its day, but the 964 has begun to garner increasing respect and we are always on the look out for interesting examples. The one we have here, a one-owner Velvet Red Metallic 1990 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Targa, certainly fits that description and should make for a really nice option for anyone looking to get into a 964, whether for the first time or as an addition to the stable.

1This car couldn’t be more different from yesterday’s slightly dodgy “AMG” 190E. While that W201 was in rough shape and of dubious authenticity, this low-mileage, AMG-tuned, widebody W124 coupe appears to be both the real deal and in glorious, mint condition.  There’s no denying that this black on black 80s bad boy has incredible presence, with deep dish wheels and bulging fender flairs. Unfortunately, it also comes with hefty price tag to match.

I’ve been on a wagon kick lately over the past week and I’m not about to slow down with my first post of the week. This BMW E30 estate might not have the engine the enthusiast lusts after, but it is wrapped around the one body style forbidden to US customers that is highly sought after on these shores, given their legal status in the eyes of the government. This 324td estate for sale in New Hampshire is originally an Italian market vehicle, equipped with a 5-speed manual to help get the most out of the oil burner under the hood.

1990 Porsche 928GT

There exists a wide range of “degrees of provenance” that collectible cars carry with them. On one end of the scale there are barn finds with virtually no recorded documentation, and at the other end there are the low mileage weekend drivers fastidiously maintained by a single owner over a long period of time. In regards to cars like the Porsche 928, the former is more common than the latter. Perhaps the most special are the latter when owned by a well-known enthusiast. This 1990 Porsche 928 GT is one of those rare and special cars. Originally owned by Rob Burrell, a well-respected member of the 928UK community, this 928 remained in the hands of its original purchaser for 24 years. In a letter to the 928UK community, Burrell stated that this 928 was the best car he has ever owned, without question (further mentioning that it had stiff competition from several other Porsches, a Ferrari, and a Lamborghini).

Burrell sold the car to an enthusiast who held onto it until late 2015, when he put it on consignment at Dick Lovett Ferrari. I am uncertain whether or not the car ever sold, but it is now advertised again by the same dealership for the same price. That price is substantial, too… £74,990, roughly equivalent to $98,570. I don’t follow the UK market for 928’s very closely, so I will withhold judgment on whether or not this is a reasonable figure.

1990 Mercedes-Benz 560SEL

Last week, we featured a rather remarkable 1992 Mercedes-Benz 500SEL with just over 16,000 miles on the odometer. Only two model years separate that car and this 1990 560SEL for sale in Illinois, however, they are a world apart in terms of the executive car formula. The W140 that replaced this W126 S-class was large and in charge. Perhaps too large, given its reception at the Geneva Motor Show in 1991. While it was a technical tour de force, many were lamenting the passing of the W126. The 560SEL was the standard bearer for German luxury for many years, that is to say a car that was elegantly styled with bulletproof build quality. To this day, these are cars that blend in nicely into the automotive landscape. It’s hard to explain how they can pull off both the classic and modern look at the same time, but they do. Like the 500SEL from last week, this 560SEL is another low mileage piece, with just under 10,000 miles on the clock.
