1993 Porsche 911 RS America

Over the past few weeks I have featured an abundance of ultra-low-mileage collectible 911s and I know the common refrain has been that these are, to a degree, a waste. As beautiful and interesting as these wonderful low-mileage examples are, they are not being used as intended. I feel everyone’s pain on this. Here we have another collectible 911, but this one is far from a pampered garage queen. Rather, this Grand Prix White 1993 Porsche 911 RS America has covered nearly 215,000 miles over the course of its 22 years on the road. The RS America in general has shown really nice increases in value over the past year, but it’s rare to come across one with more than 100K miles let alone twice that. That makes the valuation of this car difficult, but in many cases well-maintained high-mileage 911s still seem to fetch pretty good numbers. In addition, this one is a low-option car, only having 1 of the 4 available options selected upon delivery. That 1 option was A/C.

1993 Mercedes-Benz 300CE-24 Cabriolet 5-speed manual

The W124 Mercedes-Benz E-class convertible isn’t exactly what you would consider a sporting drive. It’s a thoroughly competent cruiser and can handle itself in the twisties, but this is a car meant to cosset you as you motor, top-down and enjoy the passing scenery at a more relaxed pace. It is, simply, a car to be seen in. Our reader Walker spotted this imported 1993 300CE-24 Cabriolet equipped with a 5-speed manual gearbox, one of a handful that were equipped as such. Imported in 2001 and brought up to US specs, it’s available in Richmond, Virginia with just over 100,000 miles on the clock.

Motorsports Monday: 1993 Porsche 968 Club Sport

Early in my track career, I became an instructor with the BMW Car Club. This afforded me many interesting experiences, one of which also happens to be one of my favorite track memories. One trip to Lime Rock Park was on a rainy Saturday; arriving, I found that one of my students had a Porsche 968. The car was well modified, running on sticky Michelin Pilot Sports and replete with a fully upgraded suspension, the 968 looked purposeful in Guards Red with BBS wheels and a 6-speed manual. Now, on paper the 968 was disappointing compared to the earlier Turbo models. Several times I’ve backed up this view because modified Turbos offer so much track performance. I’ve also spent some time in 944 Turbos around the same track – notably, my father’s ’89 Turbo, so I’m not without a point of reference. But this rainy day my student’s 968 was a blazing chariot against the bleak fog of the morning. Usually I get together and talk with my students before we head out about what their experience, expectations and trouble spots are. And this day, my student approached me and immediately said “I’m not heading out”. I figured this was because of the rain; in inclement conditions, the risk of an incident increases considerably, but so does the learning curve. It wasn’t fear of the conditions that was holding him back though; he had taken some medication and prudently didn’t feel as though his mental state was conducive to track time. “But you could drive me around” he said….

1993 Mercedes-Benz 500E

The 1993 Porsche 928GTS we saw last Friday raised the question of how high is too high in terms of mileage. The popularity of the GTS these days still has people clamoring for the well-used examples, given this Porsche’s rarity. Another rarity to emerge from Zuffenhausen did not have the Porsche crest on its hood. Rather, it had the Three-Pointed Star. The 500E/E500 is one of the most legendary Mercedes-Benzes to emerge over the last three decades. Few were built, but they still made an impact. This 500E for sale in Las Vegas has over 188,000 miles on the clock, but has been in the care of just two owners, having been serviced at a Mercedes dealership all its life.

1993 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3 Limited Edition – REVISIT

The low mileage Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3 Limited Edition we featured last October is back up for sale, the seller having lowered the price by another $2,000. Not many of these Limited Edition W201s left in this condition, but how far will the seller have to go to find a buyer?
