2001 Audi S8

I’ve recently been engaged in an email exchange with one of our readers comparing the V8 quattro that I love with the later D2 A8/S8. As much as it pains me to admit it and I love that early D11 V8, the reality is in nearly every measurable way the A8 and S8 are probably just a better choice. First, they’re the best part of a decade newer, and while the styling isn’t DTM worthy the D2 is certainly a great looking car in pretty much everyone’s book. The dimensions are right, the stance is great, and the presence is enormous. The D2 also benefited from the developments of the D11 chassis, and while it’s missing the virtually unstoppable Torsen setup of the V8 quattro, the D2 gained in pretty much every other department; refinement, quality, ride comfort, performance, fuel economy and safety. 2001 BMW 325xi Touring

The same neighbor that I’ve written about pampering a sweet, sweet 1996 911 Turbo daily drives an E46 Touring that I covet. Even as just a plain 325i, it is simply attractive and seems to be a great mix of entertaining and useful. While his rare drives in the 911 must be a revelation, the ability to have fun every day in a great wagon must be nice. Thought automatic, today’s 325xi adds all-wheel drive to create even more versatility. With just 54k miles, this could make a great DD for years to come.

2001 Porsche 911 Turbo

As many are aware, Porsche values have gone a bit crazy over the past few years, especially for classic 911s but also for many variants of the 964 and 993. Pretty much any air-cooled example remains a strong investment, assuming the owner has shown it proper care over its life. There is, however, still value to be had with the 911 as I have featured with a couple examples of the 996TT. If you all will indulge me a bit my aim is to gain a better understanding of the market for these cars so I hope to feature a few more. The negatives of the 996 relative to its predecessors are well known and I won’t rehearse them here, though given that many of those negatives are largely subjective, many buyers may find that the 996 makes for an amazing car. All of which brings us to the car featured here, an Orient Red 2001 Porsche 911 Turbo located in Indianapolis.
