1986 Porsche 930 Slantnose Outlaw

I’ve featured a few modified 911s lately and in each case part of the appeal to me was that each seemed to be a well-executed build that didn’t try to do too much. While each was unique in itself, each also easily would be recognized as a 911, but one that had been turned up a notch in certain ways. This 911 is…not like that. It is not subtle, it is not understated, and it’s been turned up a lot. The 930 Slantnose always has been a car that epitomized ’80s excesses so it makes sense to use that as a base for this kind of build. This isn’t a factory Slantnose, but rather a 930 that has been converted to the Slantnose body. But one look at the rear tires reveals that under that body is no normal 930. The built turbocharged flat-six is said to be delivering 450 hp to those rear tires. The transmission also was rebuilt and I assume it is the same 4-speed unit that came standard. The interior received some attention in the guise of a roll bar and a set of Recaro Pole Position seats, but I think it is the drivetrain modifications that will interest most buyers. With around 200 additional horses available over a stock 930 the performance of this machine should be seriously spirited and require significant attention. The 930 has been known as a widow maker and the overall look and build of this example suits that moniker to a tee.

1979 Porsche 930

We’ve come across a number of interesting 930s over the past weeks. The 930 itself is a car with which readers should be quite familiar and it is not at all uncommon for us to find them for sale. With that said, the variety appears to have increased lately with a number of them in more interesting color combinations crossing our path. With prices across the 930 market having shot up over the past year we probably shouldn’t be too surprised to see some sellers trying to take advantage and test that market with these rarer alternatives. The example here, an Oak Green Metallic 1979 Porsche 930 with Cork leather interior and 65,256 miles on it, continues that trend of more interesting examples.

1977 Porsche 930 Turbo Carrera

Pairing some racing graphics with the highest performing variant available seems like a winning combination, right? Well, that’s more or less what we see here with this Silver 1977 Porsche 930 Turbo Carrera that has been complemented by a set of Martini graphics. In the world of available Martini decals this is actually one of the more subdued options Porsche made available in the late-70s and early-80s. They provide a nice talking point, but without making it appear as if you’re trying to pass your car off as a racer. There are few more recognizable graphics in racing than Martini and Porsche’s long history of running their livery has made them a popular choice for those who desire to help their Porsche stand apart just that little bit more. Oh, and it also has a Lobster Red interior. For those who are fans of these red interiors, and I count myself in that group, it’s a fantastic color.

1987 Porsche 930 Coupe

We’ve featured a few 930s recently that have all hinted at the sharp increase in value we have begun to see with these early Turbos. Truthfully, some of them have more than hinted at those value increases with asking prices well north of what we are used to seeing for model years other than ’76 and ’89. The example here offers hope that there are still reasonable values to be found, though it comes with the caveat of having seen quite a bit more miles. Those extra miles are ok if the maintenance has been kept up-to-date and the car has been well cared for in other respects as well. But mileage tends to show even on the best examples and this one is no exception. Still, it’s a nice color that’s pretty uncommon for the 930 and presents quite well even with all of those miles. Here we have a 1987 Porsche 930 Coupe with 141,000 miles on it. Though the color combination isn’t stated, I’d guess it’s Venetian Blue Metallic over a contrasting Linen and Blue interior.

1994 Porsche 911 Turbo S Flatnose

Naturally it took me very little time to decide whether to feature this car after I came across it. Here we have a 1994 Porsche 911 Turbo S Flatnose. 1 of 39 produced for the US market, and 1 of 93 total Turbo S produced worldwide. The 3.6 Turbo S was the final iteration of a variety of 964 turbos Porsche produced beginning in 1991 with the basic Turbo, which carried over the 3.3 liter turbocharged flat-six that had served the 930 so well for many years. In 1993 a turbocharged version of the 964’s 3.6 liter flat-six finally was readied and as a final send-off Porsche Exclusive took hold of the remaining Turbo chassis available to produce a Turbo S based off of that 3.6 liter engine. The majority of the 93 cars produced (66 in all) featured the 968-derived flatnose and that nose remains the car’s most identifiable feature. Other notable features are a unique whale tail, Speedline wheels, quad exhaust, and rear air inlets to help feed air to the engine. And of course, they had more power – 385 hp – all delivered to the rear wheels. These were the last of the purely rear-drive Turbos Porsche would produce outside of the GT2, which raised the insanity even more. The 964 saw a pretty large number of limited production models and for its combination of performance and refinement the Turbo S remains one of the best.
