About this time last year, a clean “Ersatz” S2 replica popped up on Quattroworld. With a tremendous amount of work completed, a collection of rare parts and very good condition, it was understandable why the asking price was a high $18,000. However, after 10 months and 3,000 miles, the new owner has chosen to list the car for sale. Condition is about the same as last year but it doesn’t appear that the new owner has sorted the air condition issue. As I said in the original article below and illustrated in my recent 20V Turbo 10K edition, I feel the market for these replica S2s is really about to fall apart. While it won’t be easy to import an original car, it will be possible and substantially cheaper than the asking price. Given the option, as clean as this car is I’d still sport for a real one for less money. How about you?

Who doesn’t love a good period wheel? They weren’t always the most attractive designs, but nowadays they’re all the rage; clean up a good set of wheels that were rare to begin with and now are hardly ever seen and you’ll be the envy of countless enthusiasts at your next show! I’ve got some cool period pieces today – from the Zenders that are always fan favorites to some obscure Porsche steel wheels. Even more obscure are the Hayashi racing and Simmons wheels for BMW; but clean and in the right application, they’d be pretty cool. I can’t ID the set of Japanese made red wheels, so input is appreciated. Otherwise, enjoy!

Depending on your tolerance and your desire for a particular model, that level of project can vary greatly from a car that has some minor needs to a complete rebuild from scratch. Today I have two “broken” Silver Arrows from different generations – each with a devoted following and somewhat rare to see these days. Both could function as daily drivers with some work if you’re game. Let’s start with the Coupe GT:

8 CommentsThe Typ 110 was the beginning of the end for the NSU badge. The Volkswagen Group took over this company in 1969, merging it with the Auto Union marque to form the Audi brand that we have today. These small, air-cooled rear engined NSUs would carry on into the early 1970s before being phased out, leaving the revolutionary Ro80 that we saw Carter feature this week as the last NSU badged vehicle in history. These small cars had a fairly advanced transversely mounted, overhead cam engine with independent rear suspension and double-wishbone front suspension. This 1200C is said to be in original condition and has somehow found its way to Texas. This makes for a rare chance to experience a car that was popular middle-class transport for postwar West Germany.

Couple the exclusivity of the few that were imported with the avid followers that seem to know the movements of virtually every model and you have a recipe for stalker-status enthusiasts that snap up every good example.
