We can’t get enough of the 928s today. The seller of the great condition 1985 Porsche 928S 5-speed has contacted once again to let us know he reduced his price to $15,999. With recent mechanical work and tires and an overall impressive condition, these mid-generation 928s are great performers that still look amazingly fresh even 30 years later. While you may be able to find a cheaper non-S model or automatic, these 5-speed 928Ss are certain to appreciate in value over the coming years and provide plenty of entertainment along the way. 1987 Porsche 924S

Last week, Paul wrote up a clean Guards Red 1987 924S. Along with black examples, it seems that Guards Red was the other preferred color for the 924S, and I’ve written up quite a few of them. Despite there seemingly being an overabundance of these examples, they still look great every time I see one. This car is no exception; it appears to be a clean, honest survivor that has been well cared for. As there is a 1987 example in a similar shade – or once was – parked down the road from me on the street replete with massive dents down the side, I’m acutely aware of what a poorly treated 924 can look like. Also setting this car apart is the light ivory Porsche script interior, which with some completed repairs looks to be overall in very good shape and is unusual to see in these cars, most of which had black interiors:

Tuner Tuesday: 1985 Porsche 930 Andial 3.5

When it comes to 1980s Porsche tuners, the immediate name that pops into enthusiasts’ minds is Ruf. And for road cars, certainly the Yellowbird set the tone for performance tuned cars and remains legendary today. In the shadows of Ruf’s imposing figure, though, were smaller firms such as Andial. Andial worked in tandem with Porsche Motorsports to run many of the customer racing program cars such as the 935, 956 and 962. This gave them some serious credentials and notoriety for building impressive cars. Some of those Andial-built motors ended up in road-going Porsches, such as this 3.5 liter converted 930:

10K Friday Poor-sche Edition: 928S4 v. 944 v. 944 Turbo v. 924 v. 944 S2 v. Boxster v. Boxster S

“Poor Man’s Porsche”; while it’s a moniker usually attached to the 924 series, the reality is these days it applies to everything outside of the 911. The surge in 911 prices has been so great, that it has also pulled other lesser alternatives to the 911 up as well – try to get into a clean 912 and you’ll be surprised by the price. Even the lowly, forgotten 914 is in the mid teens for a really clean example of a flat-4 model up towards $100,000 for original 914-6 models. So does this mean you need 6-figures to be a true Porsche enthusiast? I don’t believe that’s the case – I think there are a plethora of great options at or around $10,000, so I’ve lined up an assortment. Which do you think is most worthy of wearing the crest of Stuttgart?

Double Take: 1986 and 1987 Porsche 944 Turbos

Dismayed by recent price increases in the E30 market? I’ll admit I am; I’ve had a dream since I was 12 of owning an E30 M3 – back when they were new – but recent prices mean that ship has sailed. But there are still plenty of options for affordable German motoring – even a race-bred, flared 4-cylinder kind. If you missed out on the trio of 944 Turbo racers I wrote up earlier this week, today I’ve got two affordable and good looking options for driver-quality 944 Turbos. As these are the early cars, they’re down on power out of the box compared to the later S, but these are easily tunable cars that accept a myriad of upgrades and still have a very active and enthusiastic community supporting them. Faster, better handling and braking, great looking and even more fuel economy than the E30 is what you can expect from the 944 Turbo. But the one thing you won’t see is ridiculous prices, for now:
