1988 Porsche 911 Carrera Club Sport – REVISIT

The 1988 Porsche 911 Carrera Club Sport we originally featured last year has been relisted once again with a Buy It Now price of $175,000.

My favorite generation of the 911 is the 3.2 Carrera. This is the 911 that spanned much of my formative years and bridges the gap neatly between the vintage and modern era. Those are just two reasons these cars draw me in. There was a lot of choice to be had across the range, with normally aspirated and turbocharged flat sixes, Coupe, Cabriolet and Targa bodystyles and even the resurrection of the legendary Speedster name in 1989. However, there is one 3.2 that, in my opinion, trumps them all. It happens to be one of the rarest 911s ever. The Club Sport.

Even amongst some 911 enthusiasts, this model is a bit of a dark horse, due to the fact that only 28 were ever sold in the US market. But for those in the know, all they need to hear are those two magical words and their radar is up. This was a lightweight special with a blueprinted engine, sport suspension and more aggressive brakes. There were also some factory deletes such as air conditioning, radio, rear seating and front fog lights. This Club Sport for sale in New York is one of two sold in silver metallic and is the only one to be manufactured with an electric sunroof.

1970 Porsche 911T Coupe

Porsche is well known for its long and storied road-racing history. That history defines the marque and in many ways serves as its guide. But there is a portion of their racing history that also includes forays into rally racing, most notably their entry in the Paris-Dakar Rally with the 953. While certainly a small part of their overall racing heritage, rallying provided another means for Porsche to display its racing prowess during the manufacturer’s early days, even if road racing ultimately would remain its primary venue. The car we have featured here found inspiration in some of those early rally cars: a 1970 Porsche 911T Coupe with a few exterior modifications to give it a distinctive, rally-esque, look.

1995 Audi RS2 Avant

I have a rather simple dream garage. It consists of three cars. My current MINI Cooper S, a 1989 Porsche 911 3.2 Carrera Coupe and this car, an Audi RS2 Avant. Each car serves a different purpose, the MINI being the practical, cheap runabout, the Porsche serving my sports car needs, and the Audi being a bit of a jack of all trades. Sure, there’s a bunch of other cars I’d love to own, but these three are at the core of everything I hold sacred in the automotive world. But amongst those three, the Audi is just something much more. All three cars are fast enough in their own right, but the Audi throws space and all-weather capability into the equation. 1961 Porsche 356B Super 90 Coupe

Vintage cars will never appeal to everyone, but for those who yearn for the styling or the relatively minimalist nature of a vintage automobile there can be no substitute. For Porsche enthusiasts that almost always means finding a 356. One of the aspects I appreciate most about the 356 is the way in which it provides such a clear lineage to the 911 that we see today. The basic shape and underlying architecture of the 911 can be seen even in these cars produced more than 50 years ago and that is a rare trait amongst vintage cars. For the most thorough display of those design elements prospective buyers need look no further than a 356 Coupe like the one seen here. 944 S3 – 1993 and 1994 Porsche 968s

Another week, another set of watercooled, front engined, 4-cylinder, non-turbo Porsche coupes. This time, though, it’s the cream of the crop; the highly regarded 968 Coupe. While recently I’ve covered several944 S and S2s, the 968 remains pretty firmly the most desirable of the non-turbo models by most enthusiasts. For good reason, too – it’s a good looking, relatively cheap to maintain Porsche that’s a great driver and combines the awesome look of the 928 and 944 turbo into one package. What’s not to like? Well, in some cases, the pricetag; we’ve featured a few lower mile examples and the asking prices seem to be quite high. The first example is a good illustration of this:
