My proclivities lie in the 80s, especially when it comes to VW Vans. The old buses are cool, but after riding in my brother’s college-edition enough, it’s a little post-war for me. The Eurovan has always seemed like a capable fellow, but I was initially turned off by front wheel drive and less distinctive styling than the Vanagon. A friend is in search of one to someday be the ultimate family vacation vehicle, and despite being the more modern Van, they can be had more affordably than Vanagons. Today’s eschews the bland looks with an amazing original teal paint job. It’s put on some miles, but that’s what adventure vans are for!

The 1975 Volkswagen SP2 we featured back in February has been relisted and curiously carries a slightly higher price tag this time around. Did the frenzy over the Ventura that Carter featured earlier this month catch the seller by surprise?

3 CommentsIf you missed last week’s awesome Westfalia that Nate wrote up, you missed a great example of the breed – as Nate put it, all you could ask for in a Vanagon. But if you don’t need the kitchen and awesomely cool pop-top, you can save a bunch of money and still have the Vanagon experience. Granted, you could argue that a large part of the appeal of the Vanagon is those camper Westfalias, but there’s a neat simplicity about the non-camper version. Today there is a stunningly clean version of the regular Vanagon GL on Ebay:

There’s only one solution – a Rabbit diesel. Many of these Rabbits lived a hard life, but today’s example looks absolutely brilliant in Ocean Blue; aside from some minor details and refreshing, it’s one of the best we’ve seen lately.
