The kind of options on this G63 has become very typical with charging nearly $3,000 for some carbon fiber trim and other little things. Mercedes did an excellent job of squeezing every last cent they could out a chassis that was dated 10 years ago and people kept buying it, so more power to them. I’m curious to see what will become of the W464 chassis because the interior follows the same design language as almost all of the other cars in the current lineup. I don’t know if they plan to run the W464 another 20 years or switch to a more traditional life cycle of 6-8 years. I suppose time will tell.
As for this specfic G63, it’s a cool setup but nothing extraordinary. The current price of nearly $150,000 is so slouch but wait a few years and you can probably sang this thing for under $100,000. The sweet spot for buying in on G if you don’t want to lose a ton of money seems to be about 7-10 old year range if you stomach owning one of these out of warranty with some miles on it. Any way you look at it, it costs a lot money to own one of these no matter what year buy. Thankfully for Mercedes, there is a still a line of people who willingly sign up for doing that kind of thing but don’t look for me waiting in that line. I’m not at that level just yet.
