1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe

After perusing quite a few high-dollar or modified 911s it’s always nice to return to something original and basic to remind myself why I began to enjoy these cars in the first place. While I’ve increasingly taken a liking to the 964 over the past few years my heart still remains with the classic design of the 911SC and 3.2 Carrera. Those were the 911s of my youth and as such they are the ones that still pull me most strongly. For many the 3.2 Carrera remains the preferred choice of the two since it offers a few more evolutionary steps without diverging too far from the standard formula. The market, of course, has noticed this and prices for the 3.2 Carrera have begun to separate themselves from their predecessor, especially in the case of the later G50-equipped models produced from 1987-1989. But you don’t need the G50 transmission in order to enjoy a 911, and some even prefer the older 915 anyway. It is, after all, a bit lighter and those pounds matter. So here we have one of those earlier Carreras: a Prussian Blue Metallic 1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe, located in Miami, with matching blue leather interior and 69,800 miles on it.

There is a lot to like about this 911, though there are also a few areas I would be looking for some more information. Generally speaking everything here presents quite well as the exterior, interior, and engine bay all look clean and in good shape. The monochromatic blue combination is not really to my taste, but as we’ve seen frequently it is a common occurrence with many blue 911s. Regardless, it should stand as a rare set of colors. There are a couple of minor modifications, but otherwise it presents as mostly correct. The ’86 MY sometimes serves as a nice value as it is the most modern Carrera with the 915 transmission and thus tends to be somewhat less desired by collectors. This one is priced somewhat reasonably relative to a few others we’ve come across, though it is on the high end for non-G50 Coupes. Given its condition and rare color we may still see it snapped up. There’s no word on available documentation so that would probably be the first starting point for any prospective buyers, but if its history checks out and it is mechanically sound then it should make for a good, fun, 911 that still stands a chance of returning extra value down the road.

Turbo Fuchs are a nice and costly addition if they are not aftermarket. they appear to be 16×7 fronts and 16×8 rears. 16×9 rears fit also and look fantastic but it is hard to tell from photo. A little ride height issue wrt the rear of the car but that can be adjusted pretty easily.
