The 911SC isn’t the only model where you can find decent value among air-cooled 911s. The 964 too has typically shown itself as another option. Admittedly it does get more difficult and, of course, you are going to pay a little more for comparable mileage and condition, but you’re getting more car so we can’t be too surprised or upset by that. The top end of the 964 market, especially for the many limited-production models Porsche released at the time, stretches well above that of any 911SC. But the regular cars, there we can find something.
The one we see here, an Amethyst Pearl Metallic 1991 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Coupe located in North Carolina, fits into a similar category as yesterday’s 911SC in that it should be a reasonable value in theory, yet currently is priced too high. It’s up for auction with no reserve, which provides some hope of appropriate cost, but the starting bid has been set too high to induce any bidding. With time that should come down – or with the start set at zero – and then we’ll have a chance.

You are looking at a very clean, well maintained, 1991 Porsche 911 (964) Carrera 2 with service records dating back to new.
This 964 has lived in the east coast its entire life and owned by a retired lawyer for most of the past decade. The car is very clean and well detailed.
The exterior and interior present beautifully. The Amethyst Pearl Metallic paint reflects very nicely. New center reflector and brake lights. The cashmere beige interior has remained all original except the stereo (original is also included). Driver side bolster wear is about the only worn item in the entire interior. I just ordered Lloyd floor mats that haven’t arrived yet. I replaced the head unit with a JVC bluetooth stereo and 4 new Polk Audio speakers. Also replaced the drivers side power window motor.
The engine and transmission are in perfect working order. The car has been tuned this past summer after being stored for the last 2 years. New plugs, wires, distributor caps, rotors, intake o-ring gaskets, DME relay, oxygen sensor, engine compartment sound proofing, air filter, fuel filter and oil filter. AC serviced this past summer including a new AC condenser and Freon, and blows cold. The 964 also has a RUF exhaust system.
Smooth shifting 5 speed Manual Gear box with no evidence of weak clutch.
Brand new Porsche 911 Turbo Cup replica wheels and BFGoodrich tires have 99% tread remaining. Original toolkit and spare tire present.
Take advantage of this opportunity to own a rare timeless classic at an affordable price! Deposit immediately due at end of auction, the balance is due via bank wire transfer within 72 hours of end of listing.
This car is being sold “as-is” with no warranty stated or implied.
Amethyst Pearl is a fantastic color in general and works especially well on the lines of the 964. It’s bright and vibrant without being gaudy. For those who want a more unusual and exciting color, but without quite as much flair as one of Porsche’s pastels it makes for a nice option. Here it looks in nice shape and shows well. The Cashmere Beige interior provides nice contrast and it too looks in good condition. The driver’s seat shows a bit of wear, but nothing too out of the ordinary for this age and mileage. The dash and other components don’t show any problems. Outside of the radio, wheels, and RUF exhaust this 911 appears to be original. The original radio, for those who care about such things, is said to come with the car.
From a mechanical standpoint everything is said to be in good working order and it is said to come with all records dating back to when it was new. That’s good! Given the mileage a perusal of those records along with a PPI will be needed so that everything is clear.
At nearly 143K miles a standard 964 Carrera 2 isn’t going to sell for $50K even in apparently nice shape. So again patience will be key here. But this looks like a good honest car, the color combination is great, it’s rear drive, and it comes with a full service history. The mileage certainly is higher, but that seems an acceptable compromise for a 911 that’s well cared for and looks great.

Oh my… love those crazy 90’s colors. Lived across the street from a Porsche dealer in Germany 92-94. Gazing down at the lot it looked like a bubble gum machine had exploded. More traditional colors were popular in the US, so these are more rare.
Car had 123k miles on it back in May 2000. Not much use since then huh?
The wheels are a bit too bling for me but the car does present well. I agree its probably not going to sell at or above the starting bid, but you never know. IIRC its been on the market for a few months here and there.
Methinks many of those pics have been “touched up.”
At first look, I expected the seller to be the infamous photo faker from Carmel Indiana.
Claimed sold originally at $39,750, but back on the market this week with a $39,500 opening bid an no reserve.
