In order to satisfy the desires of Porsche enthusiasts seeking something a bit more hardcore than a standard 964 Carrera 2, in 1993 Porsche released the RS America, a limited run lightened model that came without such features as power steering, A/C, and even a radio, but included a whale tail and sport suspension. A radio, sunroof, limited-slip differential, and A/C could be optioned onto the car, but it still came in at a lower weight than a standard Carrera 2. While the RS America remains a far cry from the much more potent and lighter 964 RS available in Europe, it still provided modest gains in an effort to improve driving dynamics for those buyers seeking such things. These cars remain relatively rare but do pop-up from time to time for sale and here we have a 1994 Midnight Blue Porsche 911 RS America located in California. This one is fully optioned and has seen 112,500 miles.

Year: 1994
Model: 911 RS America
Engine: 3.6 liter flat-6
Transmission: 5-speed manual
Mileage: 112,500 mi
Price: No reserve auction
1 of 701 cars produced between 1993 & 1994. 1 of 84 cars produced in 1994. Midnight Blue Metallic was a special add on making this Porsche even more rare. If you know anything about these cars then you know what we have here. The options on this one included Radio(since upgraded), AC, limited slip diff and sunroof. This was an all option order. It even has the blue seat belts and door pulls.
This RS was gone through by TLG Porsche service in 2011 at the cost of more than $30k. Replacing and/or sorting everything from the suspension to the engine top end(I have the receipts). Its was also painted then and the original wheels were powder coated.
Recently examined by Black Forest and even inquired about purchasing.
The interior shows wear on the seats from getting in and out as well as the door handles/pulls. The paint is in good condition it does however have chips in it from the road. Not bad but areas on the front hood and bumper has been touched up with Porsche color matching touch up paint.
This is a driver. Not a trailer queen.
It’s never been tracked and was used as a daily driver by the previous owner who bought it in the late 90’s(I have a receipt for that).
112k+ miles and slowly climbing. Three owners. I have the original window sticker, never installed RS decals and maintenance records since new. It is a original San Diego Porsche and has remained in SOCAL her entire life.
Email with any questions. Thanks for looking.
This is a bit of a rare bird: an (mostly) unmolested RS America with a decent number of miles. Many of these cars have either seen significant track duty or have been stashed away by collectors. This car is neither and I like that. I also love the look. I have always enjoyed the overall profile of the RS America and in Midnight Blue with the Black wheels this RSA, for my tastes, is taken to another level. Almost every RS America I’ve seen came in either Red or White, so Midnight Blue certainly allows this example to stand apart. I know that I could spend a significant amount of time looking at AND driving this car. The interior could use some tidying up and some potential buyers may be turned off by this car being fully optioned, but otherwise things look in pretty good order here. Rather than set a reserve, the seller has offered this car at auction with a high starting bid. Given the prices we sometimes see for an RS America with some miles on it, $55,000 is certainly on the high end of where we might expect this car to sell, but it’s at least in the neighborhood of a reasonable price. Given the color rarity, we may certainly see some interest here.

This car should be advertised at:

I’ve always thought loading up this particular model with options tended to miss the point of the car. However, I’m sure the buyer (or sales manager) had something in mind when they ordered it.
The paint looks a little off to me, and with the disclaimers in the ad I’d recommend paying very close attention to the quality of the respray. It may require some additional attention. Personally, I hate black wheels so those would have to be changed. Given the wear on the inner bolster of the passenger seat back, I’m going to assume that seat back used to be on the driver’s seat.
I like that it is a no reserve auction, but it seems like the starting bid is a bit much. For that kind of money It almost seems like it would make more sense to buy a “regular” 964 and build an RS clone. For a driver car, what difference would it make?
With the high appreciation RSA’s had recently, originality has become important.
I have met several people that have taken off the high end rims, roll bars, etc. to bring them back to OEM spec.
With this RSA, I would also paint the rims the original silver. Fixing the seats is going to be almost impossible. The fabric is not available, not even from Recaro, and finding a replacement is also going to be extremely hard.
Also, this particular RS has either the Turbo rims, or spacers, in the back. It also has the H-4’s, the only two upgrades I like.
I wonder how long this owner has had the car, I have a little suspicion he wasn’t the owner that had the $31k maintaince or the paint job done.
I do appreciate this ad for it’s more comprehensive disclosure and generally better photographs than most ads. The car isn’t perfect, like he said in the ad probably way more a driver than anything that’s going to be at Amelia Island (and he may still be putting a slightly optimistic spin on it as well, I’m not familiar enough with the model to know), but I appreciate that kind of approach in this ad so much more than the “immaculate!! Needs nothing! $30k in receipts, zymoled twice monthly!!!” That’s just not helpful.
This RS America had high miles and was not in good condition. It just sold for $47,000.
Ah, good to know. Thanks for the update!
