The 911 Speedster is one of those fleeting models in the Porsche lineup, appearing from time to time in limited numbers. Only 936 of the 964 Speedsters were produced, with the majority coming to the US. We featured this particular Speedster for sale on Long Island last September. It was last listed for sale at $89,900 and since then has traveled a little over 200 more miles.

Unique and extremely rare Porsche Speedster in Concours condition and a must have to complete any collection. With only 23,602 miles from new, this Porsche is one of only 427 shipped to the United States. Immediately recognizable and a real head turner with the iconic bathtub styling. The Factory sport seats were replaced with a more comfortable RS seat as well as the ugraded radio and speakers.This is the final edition of the drop head air cooled 964 models and a must have.The 964 edition is significantly more performance oriented with a larger 3.6 liter Engine (247hp) Larger Wheels and Tires, Better Brakes (ABS) and a higher top speed of 162 mph. This car is equipped with a 5 Speed Manual Transmission, Color Coded 17″ wheels, AM/FM CD Player, Black soft top (in near perfect condition), Automatic Rear Spoiler, Driver Airbag, Power Windows and Locks, Cockpit Tonneau Cover and Complete Books and Keys. Of all the 911 Speedsters, I like the 964 the best, especially in comparison to the recent 997 series model. The tonneau cover on the 2011 model seemed a bit too elevated, giving it a hump backed look. With any rare Porsche, 964 Speedsters are not cheap. Current auctions and sales seem to have these cars pegged around the $75,000 to $100,000, with a few breaking into six figure territory if they have special provenance or options. Back in 2009, Jerry Seinfeld’s specially optioned 964 Speedster sold at the Barrett Jackson auction for a shade over $101,200 including the buyer’s premium.
The last time we featured this car for sale, it had been on the market for some time. Personally, I feel the seats and aftermarket radio detract a bit from the purity of this car, which leads me to believe getting top dollar for this one may be a bit difficult.

89 Speedsters are now mind-100s cars. Its not possible to find a nice car for less than $150,000. 2 months ago there was a sale for $187,000. That was a black/ red 89 Speedy with 16,000 miles. I have been searching for over the last 24 months and have tracked every sale. The few sales less than $100k were for cars that were wrecked, painted, modified, theft recovery.
94s are following the sale trend. There was a 10k mile 94 Speedster that sold recently for $110,000. That car sold to a dealer in Germany who has it pre-sold for $150k (USD). Sloan just sold a 94 low miles 94 Speedy for $140,000.
Moral of the story is that if you come across a nice 89/ 94 Speedster BUY IT. They are perhaps the most quickly appreciating aid-cooled 911 today. (aside the 73 RS).
My intention with this info is to be of service to those of us who want to find a Speedy.

964 America Roadsters (250 made) and 964 RS Americas (701 made), are also on the uptrend. Get a clean one while you can find one!
The 964 RS America seats are specific only to the RS America. The Speedster did not come with these. To be model correct, it should have the regular factory leather seats installed.
