I love “special wishes” cars. Something about a private (probably very wealthy) individual asking a major car manufacturer to make a whole bunch of changes to a car that is already incredibility detailed is interesting to me given how dialed-in production can be. You have every car on the line have a pre-determined build process, but then have one come along and have a totally new set of specs you’ve never seen before. I’d love to see the faces of the workers at the Affalterbach factory when they were given the instructions for this 1995 Mercedes-Benz C36 AMG up for sale in London.

When I first came across this C36, I thought it was just someone who got a little carried away with some modifications and leather. Then I starter reading and took a look at the paperwork to actually see this was all done by the AMG factory. An extra $13,500 or 19,000 Deutsche Mark (remember those?) for 17″ three-piece AMG wheels, adding some wheel arch extensions, black trim, special wood, and a custom teal leather interior. Why? No idea. Just poking around the internet, this seller in London has an interesting collection of W202 AMG cars and this is one of them. Sadly, he seems to be as much as an interesting character as this car is. And not in a good way.
The price? £49,999 or $67,826. Uh huh. So anyway, an awfully interesting car and surely a one-of-one example. Hopefully more start coming out so we can get a look at them. I just wish they’d have a little more willing seller.

Nice W104 but the price is ridiculous. You could buy a mint “regular” W104 C36 for 1/4 of the asking price. Or a W204 C63 for half the asking price. Or for your $68k you could buy a new C63. Or a C63 Black Series.
That price is probably more than it sold for when it was new! That is absolutely ridiculous. Uh huh. That’s a perfect summary of this “seller”. Good heavens.
What’s the deal with the seller?
Only a very foolish or naive buyer will bite at anywhere near that price.
