At the beginning of this week I featured a pretty highly modified Black 930 Slantnose Coupe that possessed a great deal of menace that would separate it from just about everything else around. The car we see here, a Black 2004 Porsche 911 GT2, might be thought of as a factory version of that aggressive 930. Relative to a 930 Slantnose the styling of the GT2 is actually pretty subdued, but mechanically there are no such limitations as these packed a serious punch with every one of their 477 horses directed only to the rear wheels. For buyers who felt disparaged by Porsche’s use of all-wheel drive in the Turbo, the GT2 provided reassurance that the marque had not gone soft. Its performance bonafides were as secure as ever, even if the GT2 was no longer needed for homologation purposes.

Extremely rare Black 996 GT2 with only 28,880 original miles since new. 2004 – 2005 are the rarest of the GT2’s… considered a facelift, the came with full carbon fiber mirrors, front bumper, and decklid along with updated suspension pieces in the rear, different springs, revalved shocks and a 477 hp vs 456, and GT3 style wheels. This is the last of the raw power Porsches, no PSM, 477hp rwd, and PCCB makes this Turbo bar none the most exhilarating Porsche I have ever driven, It requires far more driver skill to be safe, but is more much more rewarding for the skillful driver.
This was the lightest of the 996 Turbo variants it included the AWD system being deleted, no sunroof, no rear seats or sound deadening and Carbon ceramic brakes which weigh 50% less then steel. Much more aerodynamic then any Turbo produced with a huge ventilated front bumper and a huge decklid with additional intake ducts built in. Bigger oil cooler and added transmission oil cooler kept any of the fluids from catching temp. Bulletpoof 3.6TT that made 477hp helped the GT2 reach 196mph straight out of the dealership. To avoid and transmission synchro issues it was fitted with brass synchros making this a truly bulletproof drivetrain.
Inside and out this Porsche is in concourse condition. NO stories, bone stock, clean carfax, and every piece of paper since new including window sticker, all books, manuals, and two keys. Fresh open check book “fix-all” service with $9,800 receipt… New Clutch – Coolant Pipes Welded – Water pump and everything incorporated with that.
203,820 MSRP loaded with many different options.
This is a Daily drivable, full blown out race car, and only Porsche has ever been able to accomplish that.

It is the last two years of GT2 production for the 996 that should hold the best value. With additional power over their predecessors – 477 hp vs 456 hp – and fairly limited production, there aren’t a lot of these around and more power is always highly desirable. From a performance perspective they are really tough to beat, even at these sorts prices. I know that any time I have come across one on the road the GT2 has elicited long looks and a certain level of awe directed at that stretched rear with its impossibly wide tires. The 996 may generally be an unloved 911 model, but when it comes to the GT2 there is no doubt that we are looking at the pinnacle of the 911 line and a car that is always worth our attention.
