The W220 Mercedes-Benz S-Class gets a pretty bad rap in the grand scheme of things, and mostly rightfully so. What replaced the W140 chassis was a stark departure from the bank vault-like feel and stately styling, and went into deep into soft lines and subpar materials. It harsher words, it was a blob. It wasn’t until the facelift compare around that the W220 really became a little bit more friendly on the eyes. In additional to the S55 and S65, you could also option the AMG bodywork and wheels on the S500 to give it a little more flash. Today’s car, a 2006 S500 up for in Florida, is exactly that. You might have noticed the color too.

This one is finished in Titanite Red Metallic. It’s a very rare color in general, let alone on a W220 S-Class. Equipped with the AMG sport pack and matching wheels, this thing could pass for an S55, as long as you don’t look for quad tail pipes. Inside, Sierra Grey leather with some dark burl wood trim does very well to compliment this exterior. A big plus here is the 47,000 miles, which is probably a nice sweet spot given what the M113 is capable of in terms of high mileage.
However, all this goodness comes with a price. An ask of $18,000 is up there in terms of price compared to what you usually see for the W220 S500, but this is a special car. At least in the W220 world. Worth it? I suppose, but this is a ton of money for something that is rather average outside of having a rare paint color. While cool to see, my money probably would go towards something else.

Andrew, your write up notes that this car has a 5.4 V8. The 500s got the standard 5.0 with 302 HP. I’m usually not a fan of the W220s, but this color is magnificent! I’d rather spend $18k on a clean S55, though.
What a stunning color! I really wish I could find a 2003-06 S600 in a color like this. It’s awful, the only ones I can find are silver, or black. Thanks for posting this!
Tony is correct, this has the 5L M113 not a 5.4L as you wrote.
Very nice color and equipment…the dealer describes the color at Bordeax red…but then he also says it has “climatised” seats and “comand” navigation. for about $5K less it would be a great car. As stated above, too close to S55 prices.
