One of the comments on my recent post of a 996TT with the X50 package is that prices for these machines – especially when the mileage is very low as that one was – have risen close enough to the 997TT that the 996 begins to make less sense. That’s a very fair critique as prices have moved upward. As performance value goes, why not go for even more performance? So this seemed a worthwhile time to check in on the 997 Turbo and see what you can get.
Here we have a Midnight Blue Metallic 2007 Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe, located in New Jersey, with Natural Brown leather interior and 21,994 miles on it. This certainly is not the only 997 Turbo on the market, nor is it the cheapest, but it is one of the few that I found in a color other than Silver or Black and equipped with a manual transmission. If you like Silver and want the Tiptronic transmission there are a lot of options and they’re all plenty cheaper than this one. But those aren’t an apt comparison with the typical 996 we look at so I thought this made for a better representative.

The 997’s return to round headlights was greeted warmly by most 911 fans and I think we can easily see why. The overall look of this Turbo follows more in the footsteps of its air-cooled predecessors than the 996. The interior too, while clearly more modern, bears a stronger resemblance to earlier 911s and improves upon another problem of the 996. The only item I’ve never liked is the wheels, but that’s an easy fix. Overall, on appearance alone this is a serious step up. The 911 Turbo showcases the best of Porsche’s luxury and performance in a single package, but I’ve always thought the 997 truly gave us Porsche’s most direct movement into that territory. The 993TT shows us this side of Porsche as well, but there’s a definite aggression in its design and those lines are smoothed out by the time we get to the 997. Performance, of course, is superb.
Ok, what about price? At almost $80K we’re a good bit above the price of most 996TTs, at least so long as those cars stay in the $60Ks. The gap definitely has narrowed though and, as I said above, this is by no means the cheapest 997 available. I imagine we will slowly see that gap narrow more still before the performance differences begin to pull them back apart. Of course, a non-X50 996 still sits much further down and while that leaves us with an even more significant performance difference, we can’t exactly classify those cars as slow. We have moved quite a bit from the days when a 996TT in really nice shape could be had for around $40K, but there’s still a lot of performance to be found in these cars for the money.

Car appears to be sold, otherwise taken down from *bay.
Cosmetically, the car had a large number of flaws. Which is typical for that dealer. Pricing was not particularly good/bad. Probably about right for the miles/condition. IMO

Looks like it’s still listed on their site, so it’ll probably pop back up again.
It’s relisted.
