I always get excited when I come across a car that is the final example of a production run. These cars tend to have all the bugs worked out that may have existed when the model first started rolling off the assembly line. My 2006 MINI Cooper S hardtop is one of the final R53 hardtops produced. The car I drove before that, a 2007 Mercedes-Benz C230, was built in the last four months of W203 production and one of a few painted in Granite Gray Metallic. Even the 1998 Volkswagen GTI 2.0 I had years ago was one of the last Mk3 GTIs, fitted with special interior trim and polished aluminum wheels specific to that model year. This 1989 BMW 635CSi in Bronzit Beige is claimed to be the last of its kind built, with a letter from the President of BMW to back it up. Those looking for a late E24 won’t want to miss this.

Did you miss your opportunity to get one of the greats when they were new? Be it the last of the 993s, the 1M, or this car – the Audi TT RS – they’re packages we’re not likely to see again soon if ever. The 8J platform was already great, even in only 2.0T form – but up the power with the 2.5 liter turbocharged inline-5 and this stealthy coupe becomes a monster. Only around 1,300 of these TT RSs were sold between 2012 and 2013 and are already fan favorites. On its way out, though, Audi gave U.S. fans something special with the “Final Edition” cars. Around 30 of the final run of TT RSs were handed over to Audi Exclusive, where they received special interior and exterior treatments. Outside they were painted Nimbus Grey Pearl Effect and given the full Titanium Exhaust package treatment which came with the titanium exhaust, black optics grill and titanium “Rotor” wheels. Inside, they were outfit with two tone Crimson Red and Black leather interiors and a special “RS Plus” shift knob. They were also fully equipped with the Tech package which included navigation and heated front seats. The price for such luxury? Over $70,000 out the door. But today, you can have what is effectively a brand new on for some $20,000 less:

2 CommentsThe Guards Red 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe equipped with the M491 Turbolook package, which we featured in November, is back up for auction. This time its starting bid has been lowered from the $75K price of the previous reserve auction, which received no bids, to a $65K starting bid. That has received one bid thus far and the reserve remains unmet. If this low-mileage Carrera hopes to garner sufficient attention to reach its reserve, interest will have to ramp up quickly.

1 CommentI have vivid memories as a child of one of Mercedes-Benz’s most iconic models over the last 40 years: the W123. The diesel variants particular stand out; their clatter as they ramble down the road was distinctive. The deliberate thunk as you would shut the doors and the seemingly magical way they would soak up the imperfections in the tarmac, even it it was a taxi with high mileage that was navigating the cobblestone streets of some old European city. These cars were and still are marvels. Upon a visit to the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart nine years ago, I was in awe of the like new examples the museum had in their collection, dreaming of being able to purchase a new W123 once again. Well, this 1981 300D for sale in Pennsylvania is about as close as you can get to showroom fresh. While this one predates the turbocharged 300D that came later, it still has a lot of appeal.

3 CommentsThe 964 is looking like the hot car on the 911 market at the moment, serving as a fitting reversal of the overall struggle the model suffered under during its production run. Porsche offered a huge variety of colors for the 964 – granted, Porsche always offered a wide variety of colors, though on the surface it has always felt like they expanded even more for the 964 – but we don’t come across many of those wild colors very often on the standard models. For instance, the Lime Yellow Carrera RS Paul featured over the weekend is one of the few yellow 964s I can recall seeing and I cannot recall any of those being a standard Carrera. That is the nature with rare colors, of course. But here we have one: a Coral Red 1991 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Targa, located in Montreal, with Beige leather interior and 79,900 miles on it.
