2013 Porsche 911 Carrera S Coupe

I sometimes wonder if I’m too neglectful of newer 911s. I rarely post them (and I think this is a general feature of our site), but the reasons for that are pretty natural: finding newer models in good condition isn’t always that difficult. There are abundant options available and most all will serve a driver’s purposes very well. That said, as we all know there can be great benefits to buying a lightly used car since most show initial depreciation that is quite rapid. If you aren’t picky then you can save a good bit of money. What about if you are picky? While newer models do abound on the second-hand market they aren’t always interesting nor come in an interesting spec, so if you’re looking for just the right combination of features along with a better price the search becomes more arduous. I think the car we see here, a GT Silver 2013 Porsche 911 Carrera S Coupe with Carrera Red interior and 7-speed manual transmission, checks a lot of these boxes and it is just this sort of modern car that is very worth our time here at GCFSB.

1977 Volkswagen Scirocco

It’s hard to believe that the Volkswagen Scirocco has fully entered into mid-life crisis. When I was born, my family was lucky enough to have a few “classic cars”. My father, for example, still drove me around in a 1966 Mustang – considering the number which sold, probably not an unusual occurrence. But while those memories seem as fuzzy as the television broadcasts from the period, consider for a moment that when I was born, that “classic” Mustang was 11 years old. My current daily driver is 14 (technically, 15, soon to be 16) years old, so as I tote my son to school in the back of the Passat I’m wondering if his experiences will feel the same as mine did. Of course, in the 1970s cars seemed to age much more quickly; to the point that when I was forming most of my car-related memories in the 1980s, the Volkswagen Scirocco was well into its second iteration and a fair amount of the original models had already left the road. Survivors are few and far between, as mostly rust took them off the road. Finding a survivor – especially a pre-refresh Scirocco like this 1977 – is quite rare:

1983 Porsche 911SC Targa

This almost seems sacrilegious to say, but I’ve found myself frequently attracted to some silver 911s lately. Not all of them, but a few have crossed my path and I have really enjoyed their look. The only caveat is that the attraction seems limited to classic 911s as there hasn’t been much from the 964 and later that has caught my eye in silver. The car we see here is one of those that’s attracted my gaze: a Pewter Metallic 1983 Porsche 911SC Targa, located in California, with 51,641 miles on it. Properly speaking this isn’t silver so perhaps I could rationalize it that way. But it’s close enough! Anyway, it is the details of this 911SC that make it even better. It appears to be very well documented and cared for throughout its life and the seller has provided ample description and abundant photos to address most issues buyers may have. I wish more cars were sold this way.

Northern Exposure: 1994 BMW M3 Canadian Edition

I promise that it was not my original intent to run a Canadian market car this today, but it’s pretty apropos for this morning’s coffee intake. The Canadian Edition M3 is no stranger on these pages; I’ve written up two of the original 45 in the past few months. First was the Mugello Red car which had undergone some changes for stock.. Second was the staggering Individual Giallo example which set what I believe may be a record price for a non-Lightweight car. Today #40 has come up for sale and seems to lie between the condition of the two cars. Presented in fetching Dakar Yellow, where will the price of this E36 end up?

1979 Porsche 930

Take a beautiful blue car and place it next to the ocean (or any large body of water) and I will be attracted to it like a moth to a flame. It is a combination of color and environment that really speaks to me even if there is a certain monochromatic quality to the entire presentation. As should now be obvious my attraction to this 1979 Porsche 930 was kindled through just such an arrangement. The sky, the waves, the car. It all looks so inviting. Of course, once you’ve strapped yourself into this 930, fired up the engine, and attacked the local coast road the experience then takes on an entirely different dimension. That’s right where my mind is transported after taking in the still photos. It’s the total experience captured in a single photograph.
