1997 Porsche 911 Turbo S

Oh my lord this is everything. Here we have an Arctic Silver Metallic 1997 Porsche 911 Turbo S, located in New York, with Boxster Red interior and a mere 2,544 miles on it. Do I wish the exterior were something other than silver? Maybe, yes. However, Arctic Silver is a pretty nice variant of the color and the contrast it presents with the Boxster Red interior works so incredibly well that I almost don’t mind it’s a silver car. On the 993 Turbo S the color works quite well anyway.

There were only 345 examples of the Turbo S built in total and they provide the best combination Porsche could offer at the time in terms of performance and luxury. 430 hp was propelled to all four wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission. Larger disc brakes with the now well known yellow calipers provided restraint for those extra horses and the revised Aerokit helped keep the wheels planted. They are exquisite looking cars and, of course, the last of the air-cooled 911 Turbos. Naturally, that makes them quite highly sought after.

1985 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa

I’m going to say from the outset that I really like this Guards Red 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa. I wouldn’t say there is much that’s terribly special about it, but its overall look is really grabbing me. A bright red 3.2 Carrera Targa that is presented well simply falls right into my wheelhouse for everything I love about the 911. I love the classic 911 design, I’ve always liked the versatility and appearance of the Targa, and the ’85 fits into a nice window with regard to value. And it is that last point that brings me to the one thing I don’t like about it: the price. It is possible that given the condition and low mileage that this Targa isn’t priced too badly, but I’m not so sure about that. Though even if it is too highly priced it still foretells a movement of these early Carreras into pricing that simply seems beyond what I’d want to spend for one. Oh well. Let’s take a look at it though because as I said I love the car itself.

1988 BMW 535i Alpina Tribute

We’ve certainly seen our fair share of fake Alpinas come across these pages, but this one makes no claim to be authentic. Instead, it’s inspired by Alpina but takes its own route and character. I originally looked at this car back in 2014 and it’s been on and off the market since. Now showing “8,800” kilometers, the side Alpina decals gone and with a $10,000 increase in asking price since the last time we saw it, will the market appreciate this custom-built E28 this time around?

1985 Audi Coupe GT

Update 11/16/18: This GT sold again for $3,474.

Update 11/2/18: After selling over the summer for $3,000, this fairly clean driver-quality 1985 Audi Coupe GT is back on the market. The no reserve auction is so far below $2,000, and the seller gives a very honest breakdown of the current status of the car and notes more problems with the car than the listing over the summer. Despite that, it’s still fairly hard to find a clean GT, so this one might be worth grabbing!

Update 6/28/18: The best part of a year after originally being listed, this reasonably clean 1985 Audi Coupe GT is back in a reserve auction format. Since the Buy It Now was $4,950 last September, we can guess the reserve is probably at or over $4,000. The Coupe GT market has moved forward since last year, so will it sell this time?

The 1985 Audi Coupe GT debuted the aerodynamic B2 refinements in the 2-door version of the Type 85. Just like the 4000CS quattro I looked at the other day, smooth bumper covers front and rear were met with wide molding and new rocker covers. DOT-required 9004 halogen lights replaced the upright quad-rectangle arrangement on 1984 models, and the new grill sloped to meet stainless trim which surrounded the car. Inside was met with a revised dashboard with new softer-touch plastics, a leather covered steering wheel and few other changes. Mechanically, just as with the 84-85 4000 quattro, there were very few alterations between pre-facelift GT and the ’85. The same KX 110 horsepower inline-5 and 5-speed manual (3-speed automatic available) drove the car, but the ’85 up wore the same 4×108 hubs and brakes (in front, at least) as the quattro.

As with the 4000 line, most of the manual bits available in early B2s disappeared, and in you bought a late model it probably came standard with power locks, mirrors and windows. Most GTs also came equipped with a sunroof (manual and pop-out) and the rear wiper. Today’s example follows that convention minus the rear wiper. The package proved to generally be considered more than the sum of its parts, and in 1985 Car and Driver tested eight GT cars and proclaimed the Audi Coupe GT the best package available, beating ‘sports cars’ like the Supra, Mustang, and Camaro. One of the 3,586 sold in 1985, this Alpine White example reminds of a more simple time when you could drive a car at 10/10ths and still remain (mostly) at legal speeds:

1976 Porsche 930 Turbo Carrera

The former seller of this car has informed us that the listing is not legitimate. A good reminder to always do your homework before bidding!

I don’t typically like to do this – feature two identical models back to back – but I thought this might make for an interesting data point and comparison with the Light Yellow 930 I featured on Wednesday. And let’s be honest this is a very attractive 930 in its own right so it’s worth our attention.

So here we have an Emerald Green Metallic 1976 Porsche 930 Turbo Carrera, located in New York, with Cinnamon leather interior and 49,000 miles on it. I actually featured this car around this same time last year and while the pictures are the same I don’t think it actually is in the hands of the same seller. It now is up for auction and the reserve has been met so it should be passing on to a new owner. The curious part of me wonders for how much it will sell. The rest of me just loves the color!
