2019 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S

The new 992 Porsche 911 is starting to trickle into dealers and this past weekend I went to check it out. The local dealer had exactly one, a 2020 911 C4S, that was a demo car until the actual dealer stock arrived in a few weeks and I have to say, I was impressed. It’s no mistake that it is a 911 and looking at it, you’d maybe confuse it with a 991.2. Well, maybe until you got around back. The single lightbar will take some getting used to and the odd little third brake light was clever, but I think a bit repetitive. When the rear wing moves up, it also carries a brake light. However, that doesn’t “count” for regulations standards as the 3rd brake light has to be on a stationary body part. (You’ll see what I mean in the photo after the jump.) The interior was wonderful outside of the little shift knob that people have been griping about since it was introduced and I can see why. It is downright dainty compared to the hunk of the knob in the 991 cars and I don’t even believe you can shift the PDK with it. The old school center analog tach is a cool feature and I’m glad they didn’t go all digital with the dash like most of the cars in the price range. So everything was going swimmingly until he told me the price.

Just to tease you a little longer, I was all set to drive the demo car down to discussing the route we were going to take until we both realized I don’t have a driver’s license for my current country of residence. Disappointed, but I don’t blame him in the least. Naturally I then asked him how much. He said in a very straight face that his dealer has to pay around 185.000€ for this car. I thought that was odd because we use the local currency, but Porsche in Germany doesn’t want to mess around with that because currency fluctuation is a real thing considering foreign tanks with “POC” stamped inside of them run amok just two hours south from where we stood. So depending on the day, he can make a lot more, or a lot less buying and selling these cars. Converting that to good old American dollars, that is just under $208,000. That is a boat load of money for a C4S. Yes, it was optioned with basically everything including the amazing seats, but take a guess at what a Turbo or GT car is going to cost.

As for this example in the UK, it seems that they are already on the used market. This 2019 model year is optioned pretty well with the leather interior, sport seats, sport chrono package, and a bunch more of little things. This one is $150,000 for having around 1,500 miles and I’d wager it stickered somewhere in the $160,000-170,000 range. It is pretty clear to me that the 992 is going to be very expensive in every trim and getting out the door for under $120,000 probably isn’t going to be possible even for a totally stripped C2. Although I doubt that will even be allowed.

I have one of the first allocation on a boat to the US. Should have any day now.

    They sent no “strippers.”

I got as basic a one as I could find: white (no charge for color), regular interior. But “S” not base, PDK, sport package, convenience package (all the order slots had both of these), etc. $143K. This was the cheapest one to snag. Most had $3,50o colors and the full leather and deviated stitching etc. $150-$152K was where most of them were.
