2019 Mercedes-Benz G550

In a shocking but understandable news leak a few weeks ago, word is that Mercedes-Benz is putting a pause on all nearly all their V8-powered vehicles for the 2022 model year. This isn’t for fuel regulations, but rather for extreme supply chain issues that the world continues to struggle with. For the almost the entire line-up, this isn’t a big deal as they can utilize the inline-fours and V6s, but for the king of the hill G-Wagen? Well, there it is a problem. Since both the G550 and G63 AMG use the twin-turbocharged V8, that means there will be no 2022 model year G-Class. This piggybacks on the fact that dealers are already selling them before they even hit the lot. What will that mean? Supply goes down, price goes up. Thankfully for this 2019 up for sale in Texas, this price isn’t insane just yet.

1990 Volkswagen Golf Rallye Tribute

Back in 2019, I took a look at a pretty wild Golf Rallye tribute for sale up in Canada:

1990 Volkswagen Rallye Golf Tribute

While it lacked the viscous coupling all-wheel drive setup and supercharged motor of the original, it was still a very clean build with a slick VR6 transplant. Well, it’s made it to the US and is back for sale – is it a better deal today?

2012 Porsche Cayman R

The Cayman R was basically the same recipe as some of the special edition Boxsters, like the RS60 and especially the Spyder. Basically; the company lopped a few pounds (just over 100) off, added 10 horsepower to 330, some really cool wheels, stiffer and lower suspension, and slightly improved aerodynamics thanks to a raised rear spoiler. It was not the all-out track weapon that the GT4 is intended to be, but it was a notable improvement on the standard car. And while these were far from cheap when new (with a nearly $70,000 sticker price quickly augmented by options), the limited production and nature of anything from Porsche with an ‘R’ on it meant that collectors saw these coming as soon as they hit showrooms, and they’re not really any cheaper today…in fact, quite the opposite. Let’s take a look at this Peridot Metallic example:

1997 Mercedes-Benz SL600

It is very clear to me that the death of the V12 is near. It was certainly inevitable, as outside of a few very select manufacturers it just isn’t in the cards anymore. What does that mean? Go buy a V12, of course! I guess I’m not alone in thinking this as prices of the somewhat more common V12 cars have started to creep up. A prime example is the R129. For a long time, these hovered in the teens, but now the very best ones are selling for strong money and the pack of average ones is starting to catch up.

This 1997 up for sale in Florida has an interesting story. It was not only offered once, but twice, and ended at a reasonable value. However, this seller seems to have other ideas.

2007 Porsche 911 Turbo

One of the cars that seems to have turned the corner in terms of its valve bottoming out and is now on a rise is the 997 Porsche 911 Turbo. It seems for a handful of years these hung out well under $100,000, but never down under $50,000 like the previous generation 996 did. Everyone knew they were fine cars, but most preferred the facelift 997.2 for the upgraded looks, equipment, and addition of the PDK gearbox in place of the outdated Tiptronic box. However, it is now 2021 and everyone is going crazy for good used sports cars, so here we are.

This 2007 911 Turbo up for sale in Miami thankfully has the six-speed manual gearbox and is finished in a very sublime color combo of Lapis Blue over an Ocean Blue leather interior. The good news? It only has 26,000 miles. The bad news? That means it is expensive.
