We’ve tried very hard to keep consistently good and interesting daily posts out there, but there was no denying that at times we’ve been shorthanded over the past year. When it comes to W211 E55 and E63 wagons, they are quickly approaching cult status in the Mercedes circles and beyond. This E63 wagon located outside of Washington D.C. has everything you could ask for if you ever feel the need to drive home from your Home Depot trip like your house is on fire.
While I try to vary the posts up a bit, there’s no denying that my regular “Motorsports Monday” posts are dominated by Porsche and BMW. Occasionally, I search far and wide and manage to include an Audi into the mix, but our readership undoubtedly doesn’t associate this column with Mercedes-Benz products. On top of that, the name of this particular car which is bucking that trend also isn’t unusually associated with the three-pointed star – “GT3”. So synonymous with Porsche is that combination of letters and a single number that one could overlook that it dictates the rules for an entire class of cars in the FIA. Since I like rather unusual candidates anyway, I was excited to see one of the very limited production C197 SLS GT3s come up for sale on eBay this week:
Last week, we looked at a rather oddball Mercedes-Benz, the R63 AMG. I love obscure cars, especially those which are unexpectedly fast. Here’s another five-door Mercedes with some brut force under the hood: the E63 AMG Estate. Amazingly, US customers can still order a new E-class AMG estate from Mercedes, which is a miracle given how few are sold here annually. This 2012 E63 AMG Estate for sale outside of Washington, DC is painted in an uncommon AMG hue of Quartz Blue Metallic. The 2012 model packs the 5.5 liter twin-turbo V8 engine that pumps out the same 525 horsepower that that naturally aspirated 6.3 liter V8 produced, but it adds 60 more lb ft of torque for a total of 520. Burnouts, anyone?
